Leeds boss Bielsa provides Bamford & Klich updates ahead of Premier League return

Leeds boss Bielsa provides Bamford & Klich updates ahead of Premier League return

Klich out, Bamford healthy

Leeds are set to have Liam Cooper back from illness when the northern side take on Sheffield United this weekend, in what is a great opportunity to pick up 3 points ahead of a potential Premier League top-half finish.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that whilst Cooper is back, Mateusz Klich will miss out, having tested positive for Covid-19 whilst on international duty with Poland..

Good news for Leeds and Fantasy Football fans, though, is that Bielsa revealed the rest of the group is ‘healthy’, meaning the likes of Patrick Bamford will be fit and ready to face The Blades.

The England hopeful suffered a minor injury scare in a 0-0 draw with Chelsea before the break, but has since returned, and looks as sharp as ever.

This could also mean Bamford will again take on penalty duties, with first-choice taker Klich out of the picture.

Bielsa’s Rodrigo assessment

Since Spanish international Rodrigo Moreno’s arrival from Valencia, the 30-year-old has been unable to establish himself as a regular in the Leeds setup. Comparatively, fellow new signing Raphinha has become an integral part of the club’s attack.

Rodrigo was brought on and substituted back off against Chelsea before the international break, casting an even larger shadow over the Spaniard’s time at Elland Road.

Bielsa was asked about Rodrigo’s situation, and spoke glowingly of what the former Valencia forward has brought to his team.

“He arrived in his best version. He was at his best level prior to his injury at Leicester,” Bielsa said. “The level he was at during that period was a very good one. What he was giving to the team with the way he can unbalance an opponent was all very positive.

“For me, Rodrigo has already shown how important he can be to Leeds. Already justified with the abilities he has and his transfer fee. We hope to have him healthy for a considerable amount of time.

“If this happens he will be able to show his ability very quickly. For me, it’s very difficult to obtain a player of his qualities in football at the moment. What happens is when a player goes a period without playing it’s difficult to absorb.”

It appears that simple fitness woes have proven the biggest issue for Rodrigo this season, meaning, should he string a few consistent performances together, things could quickly improve.
