could be up against it on the legal front after certain actions have been recommended in the sex tape scandal involving former French international Mathieu Valbuena.

The trial involving the pair started yesterday in France, with Valbuena holding firm in his accusations that Benzema was complicit in an attempt to blackmail the former Olympique de Marseille standout regarding a sex tape that was found on his phone.

According to MARCA, Valbuena singled out Benzema in the court hearing from a group of five total accomplices, while stating his fears of being ostracized from the French team;

“I was afraid for my sporting career, for the France national team. I knew that if the video came out, it would be complicated for me in the France national team. I felt in danger, my first instinct was to file a complaint.”

Now, prosecutors have recommended a potential 10-month suspended prison sentence for Benzema, as well as a possible fine of €75,000.

It is possible that Benzema will either be found guilty or acquitted of all charges come Friday, but the player has not been present to take part in proceedings after “professional obligations” kept him from returning to France to take part.

What could this mean for Real Madrid?

In truth, not much. Should sentencing be passed down on Benzema that ultimately culminates in the French international being sent to prison, this hardly changes anything for Real Madrid, given their plans under Carlo Ancelotti.

The club are unquestionably going to do what it takes to bring French starlet Kylian Mbappé to the Spanish capital, while they have also persistently been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Norwegian wonderkid Erling Haaland, who looks set to leave the Ruhr valley after the end of the season.

Fresh links with an alternative to the Norwegian have recently surfaced in the vein of Everton’s Brazilian spark plug Richarlison, too, so should the worst case scenario for Karim Benzema come to pass, Real are at least not completely up the river without a paddle in sporting terms.
