Barcelona prepared to offer Ansu Fati new contract to 2026 with 400 million release clause

Koeman calls for patience

Ansu Fati exploded onto the scene at just 17 years of age and even earned a senior Spanish call-up. However, an injury at the back end of 2020 has effectively ended the teenager’s season.

The frustration of the injury has seeped into even Ronald Koeman who refused to divulge information on the progress being made earlier this year.

“Out of respect for the player, I am not the person to speak about his recovery,” said Koeman in February.

“You have to have respect for him and I am not in favour of rushing things.

“When there is an update, we will communicate it from the club.

“The most important thing is that he recovers calmly. He has a lot of future ahead of him and you have to do things right.”

However, since, Spanish media revealed that it is possible a third surgery may be required to aid in the recovery after the knee has failed to recover sufficiently.

New Fati contract

Barcelona are now aiming, despite his injury issues, to extend the contract of Fati.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo say that the club considers him on an equal potential level as Kylian Mbappe and want to ‘shield’ their exciting young players by keeping them signed on to long-term deals.

‘For this reason, we want to activate a shield for the youth squad that goes through extending their contract in an effective way directly for five more years, that is, until 2026, adapting their contract to their role in the team and to their condition as permanent holder when they are in perfect conditions.’

The release clause of the player is another issue Barcelona have paranoia from the Neymar situation.

The Brazilian left the Camp Nou when PSG activated the €222 million buyout clause in his deal and the former Santos forward accepted the offer.

In the case of Fati, it seems Barca want a clause which is near double that to put off any potential suitors.

‘Another thing is whether its termination clause is also raised or not, although in a context of crisis the 400 million set are unaffordable for any club. In any case, at Barça they know that the future of Ansu or any future player linked to the club does not go through a termination clause but rather because they feel comfortable in the entity.’

The world of football wants to see the talents of Fati return to the field as soon as possible but Euro 2020, delayed to this year, will not be graced by his presence.
