Barcelona could save as much as €99 million on Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Wijnaldum

Barcelona could save as much as €99 million on Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Wijnaldum

Barcelona saving

Liverpool have done well from sales to Barcelona with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho both moving to the Camp Nou for bumper fees. The latter though included an interesting clause in his contract which was designed to protect the club from future pillaging from the Blaugrana.

Coutinho’s sale marked an effective transfer truce between the clubs which would need Barcelona to pay a considerable €99 million fee if they wanted to sign any future Liverpool player.

The clause reportedly ends this year meaning that any future transfer would mean normal negotiation could take place and Spanish media have reported that Barca are very interested in Sadio Mane and Ronald Koeman specifically wants Gini Wijnaldum at the club.

Barcelona have had a very poor start to the 2020/21 La Liga season and will be looking to reinforce as soon as possible. Wijnaldum’s contract with Liverpool is up in 2021 and the club could move to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Dutch midfielder in January.

A deal for Mane would likely incur a serious fee beyond the €99 million penalty which would have occurred before the end of this year. The Senegalese winger has been pivotal in the Reds push for the Premier League title.

World class politician

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has labelled Jurgen Klopp a ‘world-class politician’ in regards to the German coach not mentioning the disparity between clubs ability to recall fans to stadiums after the Government revealed its tiered system.

“He’s a world-class manager and a world-class politician, who cares about Liverpool,” he said. “That’s all he cares about.”

“He was never going to say what about Sheffield United getting their fans back in or Newcastle or Man City or Man United or anybody else. He’s a world-class politician.”

“I know his background on support and how much Anfield has been a fortress. The Liverpool support is magnificent, I know it is because my old man is from that part of the world.”

“I know he’s been vocal on that and Jurgen isn’t going to say it’s not right that they can have fans in as they’re in tier 2 and Sheffield United, Leeds, Manchester and all the rest of the north are not allowed in.”

Liverpool play Brighton at 12:30 pm today and Sheffield United have a pivotal clash against West Brom at 20:00.
