Barca keeping tabs on free Neymar deal in 2022

Neymar's final game for Barcelona

Barca keeping tabs on Neymar

Barcelona have struggled to get over the shock departure of Neymar when PSG came in with an astounding release clause activating bid to sign the Brazilian in 2017 for £200 million.

Barca have failed to come close to reaching the heights in Europe they mustered with Neymar alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

However, there have been persistent rumblings of a possible return to the Camp Nou and media in Spain have now suggested that Barcelona are looking to convince the Brazilian to sign once his contract in France expires.

“Neymar now? He is free in a year,” said sources of Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Wages and signing-on fee would still be substantial but it would avoid any major financial cost moving from Barca to Paris.

Pochettino’s Neymar importance

PSG meanwhile are working hard on attempting to get Neymar to sign a new deal with the club.

Mauricio Pochettino spoke of the importance of getting the 29-year-old to commit to the French champions.

“Of course this is an important message for us, for his teammates and for the supporters. He shows his love and commitment for the club, it is something very important,” said the Argentine.

If PSG can secure the long-term future of Neymar, it may take some pressure off the also undecided future of Kylian Mbappe. Persistent links to the likes of Real Madrid linger and should PSG lose one or both of their stars, the future of the European pretenders could be rather bleak. Especially with the Ligue 1 title even slipping away from them this season.
