Bamford being considered by Southgate with Danny Ings likely to drop out
Southgate considering Bamford
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be in line to earn his first England senior call up after a strong season with his side since their promotion from the Championship.
‘Patrick Bamford is in Gareth Southgate’s thinking for a first England call up when he announces the squad tomorrow, I’ve been told. Bielsa has confirmed this lunchtime he is fit to face Fulham on Friday night,’ wrote Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett.

England have a number of striking options available for Southgate including the captain Harry Kane, Everton star forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Southampton’s Danny Ings, Newcastle’s Callum Wilson and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.
The latter trio have all been suffering with injuries which could open the door to Bamford whose recent affliction, as Dorsett reports, is not serious.
Ings the likely victim
Should Bamford be given the opportunity to play in the squad, it would likely be to the detriment of Southampton forward Danny Ings. The former Liverpool striker has suffered with a number of injury problems this season and his most recent, which was suffered against Sheffield United, has been confirmed as keeping him out of the next international break.
“I think it is a serious one but not too serious. I think three weeks will be – I expect him being back after the international break,” said the Austrian coach.

Hasenhuttl revealed a lack of preseason due to Covid-19 could have been the cause for the frequent issues Ings has faced.
“A little bit too much to be honest, but what can we do?” he asked. “We must in the next season have a better pre-season hopefully to avoid this situation we had with him this season and make a few other changes because it is more than we can take I think.
“But as it is we have to take it and do the best (we can).”
Should Bamford come in and take his opportunity well, it could put him in good stead to keep his place ahead of the European Championships this summer.
