“It’s home for me here”; Man United’s Axel Tuanzebe opens up about third Aston Villa stint

Man United’s Tuanzebe “at home” at Aston Villa

Axel Tuanzebe has quite the connection to Aston Villa despite rising through the youth ranks at Manchester United beginning in 2006.

The former England U21 international is in the midst of his third loan stint at Villa Park after graduating into the first-team set up at Old Trafford during the 2016-17 when he made his full debut for the Red Devil’s.

But Tuanzebe – how has now made more appearances for the Villains than his full-time employers – feels at home in the claret half of England’s second city and spoke on that very topic when interviewed by the club’s official website in the run-up to Dean Smith’s squad clashing with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Friday night.

When asked how the club have started the season, Tuanzebe responded positively;

“Yeah, I think it’s been solid. It’s been solid. A few shaky results. The Watford result…obviously the Wolves result, but I think apart from that, the way we want to be playing, and where we want to come six months or so…we’re definitely headed in the right direction.

The signings we’ve made over the summer I think are very top players and they can only add to the team, so I think it’s a very exciting campaign for us.”

Tuanzebe was then asked about his featuring in the Villa XI in six of the club’s last-eight fixtures and how he has settled back into the team;

“Yeah, it’s home for me here. You know it’s not like I’m in a foreign dressing room. I know the lads really well, I know the manager really well. I understand our playing style very well…it’s just kind of continuing where we left off. You know, helping the team come back to the Premier League and still have some unfinished business in the Premier League so it’s good to be back.”

Dean Smith raves about Man United loanee; could feature against Arsenal

Aston Villa are set to square-off against Arsenal on Friday night at the Emirates, with both clubs failing to win either of their last-two Premier League fixtures while being separated by just a single point in the table.

Villa boss Dean Smith recently raved about Tuanzebe, and could certainly call on the Englishman against the Gunners on their travels to the capital at the weekend.

Tuanzebe has started four matches for Villa in the Premier League thus far, mostly in a back three that could be called upon in a bid to stop the Gunners from firing in front of home support.

While some thought that Man United to recall Tuanzebe amidst their injury crisis at the heart of the defense, he is said to be enjoying his football and is expected to see out the season in Birmingham.
