Alexis Sanchez and Wenger

Did Arsene Wenger tell the truth about Man City target Alexis Sanchez?

Will Alexis Sanchez leave Arsenal for Manchester City?

Already, the January transfer window has seen two summer sagas resolved.

Virgil van Dijk has joined Liverpool. And, Philippe Coutinho has left Anfield for Barcelona.

Next up appears to be Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester City. Pep Guardiola tried to bring the Chilean superstar to The Etihad last summer and specifically on the final day of the transfer window.

The move for Alexis have continued on Manchester City’s part, with the injury to Gabriel Jesus seemingly fuelling the desire on the part of the runaway Premier League leaders.

Manchester City seem determined to get Alexis and have started their move early in the window.

Arsene Wenger on Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City

On Tuesday, a tired and jaded looking Arsene Wenger held a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg match against Chelsea tomorrow.

Wenger was asked about the media reports in England and Chile over the past day that confirm Alexis is close to a move to Manchester City.

The Arsenal boss denied that Arsenal were holding any talks with Manchester City: “I expect nothing. I am focused on tomorrow’s game. When solicitations happen, you respond to it. At the moment, it’s very quiet.”

Did Arsene Wenger tell the truth?

The suggestion that there are no ongoing talks between Arsenal and Manchester City has already been rubbished by a well connected Chilean journalist.

Maks Cárdenas, who has been pushing the Alexis to Manchester City rumour on social media and in the Chile press, has Tweeted that “Alexis is desperate”.

Sanchez is willing to take a pay cut to ensure his move to Manchester City comes through and the hold up to the deal is in fact Arsene Wenger.

Reports have been doing the rounds that Alexis Sánchez is ready to kiss goodbye to a massive £25m signing-on fee to ensure he joins Manchester City this month.

Arsenal are looking for an Alexis Sanchez replacement – not an easy task – before they sell the former Barcelona attacker to Manchester City…
