‘Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal’
A possible throwaway line on the Telegraph’s Total Football podcast could get Arsenal fans very excited on Monday.
Sam Wallace, the Telegraph’s Chief Football Writer, was the guest on the weekly show, and he’s claimed that Arsene Wenger is likely to leave the Gunners this summer.
Wallace made his key statement in the context of discussing Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday in the Premier League, and Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Europa League.
According to Wallace, Wenger is set to end his Arsenal reign at the end of the season:
Arsenal need to win (the Europa League). Atletico Madrid are the other big fish left in it.
It would be a good way for (Wenger) to go out. I think the chances are he will leave this summer, and what a way to go winning a European trophy. It’s the one thing (Wenger) hasn’t done at Arsenal.
For the record Wenger is under contract at Arsenal until the end of next season.
And whenever Wenger has been quizzed in public about his ongoing stay at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners boss has dismissed talk of him walking out of his contract early.
