Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey to come back confident after goalscoring international break

Partey amongst the goals for Ghana during international break

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has enjoyed a goalscoring vacation from club football during the current international break, scoring two goals for the Black Stars during CAF World Cup qualifying.

The former Atlético Madrid stalwart netted what turned out to be the winning goal in a 3-1 win against Zimbabwe on Saturday after a stunning solo effort to double Ghana’s lead.

At the time of writing Partey netted his second goal in as many matches against The Warriors, this time from a free-kick that put Ghana 1-0 up at half-time and temporarily atop Group G ahead of South Africa.

The goals were the the 10th and 11th for Partey in an international career that dates back to his debut in June of 2016 in a substitute appearance in a 2-0 win against Mauritius.

Confident return to Arsenal could be expected

It is no small statement to make regarding Thomas Partey and his lack of goal contributions to Arsenal since his move from the Wanda Metropolitano during last seasons summer window.

Though no one expected the Odumase Krobo-native to contribute regularly on the scoresheet at the Emirates given the fact that he managed just 16-goals in nearly 200-appearances for Colchoneros, a lack of goals from central midfield at Arsenal has highlighted that missing dynamic from Partey on a personal level through no fault of his own.

In 38-appearances across all competitions for the Gunners, the Ghanaian has yet to find the back of the net for one reason or another but certainly not for a lack of trying.

Despite his efforts, Partey’s xG when shooting at Arsenal is a paltry 0.046. For whatever reason, be it pressure to break his duck or otherwise, the Ghanaian cannot hit the broadside of a bread factory since his arrival in north London, but perhaps finding his scoring boots during the international break could come in handy when Arsenal clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night.
