Gunners given incentive to sign Guimaraes

Yesterday Arsenal played their latest pre-season friendly in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea in which there were goals from Kai Havertz, Granit Xhaka and Tammy Abraham. Willock too had a shot cross the line but without goal-line technology in play it wasn’t spotted by officials.

There was one big problem during the game and that was that Thomas Partey suffered a seemingly innocuous ankle injury.

Many people started to speculate how long the player could be out for, with some doctors suggesting a 4-6 or week absence.

This could push forward Arsenal’s plans to sign a central midfielder, in particular the Brazilian Lyon player Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the midfielder including even suggestions of a 30 million euro bid in the offing.

Arteta provides Bellerin & Xhaka updates

Two of the players linked with moves away from the club are Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin.

However after the game against Chelsea Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Switzerland midfielder would be staying with the Gunners this season.

“Granit is going to stay with us. He’s a player that we rate and value so much, he’s a key member of our squad. He’s trained two days. He wanted to play today and I think it’s very clear commitment from his side that he wants to be here,” he said.

However, when prompted about Bellerin and Joe Willock, he was less conclusive.

“I don’t know. I’m going to coach them and train them, and respect and look after everybody because they are our players. Hopefully they can have their minds here and prepare here because they are Arsenal players and our job is to make them as good as we can,” said Arteta.

Willock in Spaniard’s plans

Joe Willock’s future has been up in the air for some time with Newcastle looking to bring him back after an impressive loan spell.

However according to Ian McGarry, the host of the Transfer Window podcast, he is set to remain in north London.

McGarry said, “My information is that Newcastle United have made an improved offer in terms of loan fee to take Joe Willock again for a season.

“Arsenal have declined that offer and in doing so informed the player and his agent that he is in Mikel Arteta’s plans having proven himself in the division with Newcastle United.”
