Atletico rival Gunners for Martinez

Arsenal have been on the lookout for a forward this summer, rather surprisingly considering the amount of rebuilding needed in areas like midfield, right-back and goalkeeper.

Initial links to Tammy Abraham of Chelsea surfaced but more recently Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has come forward as their priority after discussions regarding the departure of Hector Bellerin.

The Athletic claim a deal with Inter would be ‘simple’ as the club need money due to their ownership situation.

However, it is now reported that Atletico Madrid will rival Arsenal for the Argentinian forward’s signature.

Bellerin offered new deal

In the discussions with Arsenal and Inter Milan over Hector Bellerin, Arsenal have grown frustrated that Inter are unwilling to consider a permanent deal.

The Italian club facing financial trouble want a loan with an option to buy. However, this would leave Arsenal with little control in the situation and could see them lose the player for less than he is worth or stuck with him with little residual value.

This has led to The Guardian now claiming that Arsenal have begun discussions with Bellerin’s representatives over a new contract with the club.

Similar to Xhaka, technical director Edu and head of football operations Richard Garlick do not want to risk players running down their deals.

Guimaraes bid expected

Arsenal’s need in midfield remains even after the signing of Sambi Lokonga and the likelihood of Xhaka remaining with the team.

The Gunners have identified Lyon’s Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as a possible option.

They are now expected to make a bid in the region of 30 million euros according to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte.

Guimaraes would add much-needed technicality, passing skill, and defensive acumen to the Arsenal midfield. In addition, Lyon need money with the financial situation of Ligue 1 unhealthy after the TV rights deal fiasco.

Nelson to Palace

Reiss Nelson’s time at Arsenal could be coming to an end, at least temporarily.

Crystal Palace coach and former Arsenal man Patrick Vieira is said to fancy bringing Nelson to the club on loan.

Nelson’s opportunities at Arsenal are slim and unlikely to increase with the presence of Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli at the club. Willian too remains, despite a possible departure looming.
