Guendouzi confirms desired future

Arsenal loanee and French U21 international Matteo Guendouzi has confirmed his desired long-term career plan, one that he does not want his parent club to feature in.

When speaking with French outlet RMC, as cited by Eurosport , Guendouzi point-blank confirmed his desire to move to current club Olympique de Marseille on a long-term basis;

“I am on loan and still tied to Arsenal, but my focus is with OM. I want to sign on for the long term with Marseille as I feel very comfortable, and I want to continue to enjoy being at Marseille.”

Guendouzi has played a starring role at the Orange Vélodrome under Jorge Sampaoli this season, appearing in all thirteen Ligue 1 fixtures and starting twelve of them, while being included in the XI in all four of OM’s Europa League group stage outings.

The French youngster was even given the captain’s armband against LOSC Lille on matchday 9 in the league, and it is quite clear that his status under Sampaoli greatly differs by comparison to how he is viewed by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Concerns surrounding Arsenal loan business?

Though Matteo Guendouzi lost his place in the team under Arteta, there is scope to suggest that the club could have tried to work with the player with a long-term approach in mind, with a view to keeping him at the Emirates in the hope that he matured on and off the pitch.

A relatively poor loan stint at Hertha Berlin marred that opportunity, however, and last summer it became apparent that both the club and the player wanted rid of the other. But the question now becomes whether or not Arsenal is doing what it takes to extract enough financial compensation for players on loan that are making the grade elsewhere.

Much of the same can be asked of the situation surrounding Greek international center-back Dinos Mavropanos, who is on loan at Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart. Now 23-years-old, Mavropanos barely had a sniff of first-team football in north London but has excelled in Germany, first at 1. FC Nürnberg and now at Stuttgart. But despite his starring displays, the German outfit could be set to prise him away from Arsenal for a paltry £3 million.

While things are currently going well for Arsenal under Arteta on the pitch, as well as having smashed it in the summer window with their incoming deals, the club seemingly still need to improve how they go about handling loan exits, and the ability to garner higher revenue for players that may not have a future at the club.
