Arsenal in talks to sign Yann Sommer
Marca have dropped some very intriguing transfer news on Saturday regarding Arsenal signing another goalkeeper.
In a list of goalkeepers who could replace Jasper Cillessen at Barcelona, with the Dutchman unhappy with his limited playing time at the Camp Nou, they bring us some Arsenal transfer news.
This is regarding Yann Sommer, the Switzerland and Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper.
“He is already in negotiations with Arsenal”
Marca write about Sommer: “An elite goalkeeper and a veteran too, he’s good with the ball at his feet. However, he is already in negotiations with Arsenal and could join Unai Emery’s team before Cillessen departs.”
Sommer was Switzerland’s first choice goalkeeper at the recent World Cup and has been impressive at both FC Basel and Gladbach in recent years.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper is contracted to Borussia Monchengladbach until the end of the 2020/2021 season.
Undoubtedly, this brings us to an Arsenal goalkeeper merry-go-round, if Sommer is heading to the Emirates.
What now for Petr Cech & David Ospina?
Bernd Leno has already arrived at Arsenal this summer and is expected to be number one at The Emirates.
In recent days, Petr Cech has been heavily linked with a return to former club Chelsea, as their back-up goalkeeper.
David Ospina, meanwhile, is expected to sign for Fenerbahce in Turkey. In recent hours the Colombian has also been linked with Fulham.
A money making exercise for Arsenal?
So, could we see Yann Sommer as Arsenal’s back-up goalkeeper next season, to Bernd Leno, with Cech and Ospina elsewhere?
This certainly seems possible, if Marca are to be believed.
The presumption has to be that Arsenal believe they can make some money by selling Cech & Ospina – replacing both with Sommer.
