Xhaka to Arsenal
Another day, another set of Granit Xhaka updates.
Today’s big news comes from Germany’s Bild, who have circulated new quotes from the Swiss international midfielder.
Xhaka told the paper that his proposed move to Arsenal is close to completion:
There are now daily talks. And definitely a decision before the European Championship.
I played my first competitive match for Borussia (Mönchengladbach) in the cup in Darmstadt. This was followed by four wonderful years. Now perhaps the last game again in Darmstadt – the circle has virtually closed.
On the Darmstadt reference, last Saturday, in the final match of the Bundesliga season, Gladbach won 2-0 away at Darmstadt.
With the match already sown up in the final stages, Xhaka was subbed in the 83rd minute, and according he received a standing ovation and hugs from his own team’s bench.
Xhaka also bagged an assist in the match.
So why isn’t the Arsenal deal yet done?
According to Bild, the Gunners are still haggling with Gladbach over the transfer fee.
Arsenal have offered 43 million euros for the 23-year-old, while the Germans are holding out for 45 million euros.
Why don’t Arsenal just stump up the cash and close the deal? No doubt, Bild’s updates will scare some Gooners that their club could balls-up yet another high profile transfer as they count their pennies.
