Arsenal and Mesut Ozil reach agreement to terminate contract ahead of move to Fenerbahce
Ozil and Arsenal agree contract termination
It appears that the saga between Mesut Ozil and Arsenal is coming to an end. The former German international has not played a single minute of football for Arsenal this season having been omitted from the Premier League and Europa League squads.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had highlighted that this was down to football reasons above anything else as to why he had not been selected despite the lack of a senior creative number 10 figure in the side.
“Everybody is free to express his feeling,” he said. “What I can say from my side is that it is just a football decision. My conscience is very calm because I have been really fair with him. My level of communication with him has been really high and we know what to expect with each other.”

However, The Athletic has now revealed that the agreement is in place between the player and the club for the termination of his contract 6 months before the end of his deal which was set to expire the summer.
The German was supposed to be set to make around £7 million in wages between now and then, and it is still unclear as to whether Arsenal and the player have agreed to write this off or whether he will still receive a proportion or all of the remaining wages.
Ozil will remember Arsenal fondly
Since his omission from the Arsenal first team, he had become more of a social media influencer. With him not featuring in the matches, he was a regular user of Twitter during games and conducted Q&A sessions with his fans.
During one of these, he was asked whether he would remember his time at Arsenal positively and answered the fan with a response clarifying how he felt about the club.
“Of course,” he wrote when asked if he ever enjoyed playing for Arsenal. “There have been many ups and downs so far, but all in all I’ve never regret my decision to join Arsenal. And to be honest the last couple of games before the corona break in February & March 2020 made really a lot fun. I’ve enjoyed that time a lot and I’ve thought we’re really on a very positive way. But after the break things unfortunately changed.”

He also hinted that during one of these sessions he would be ultimately making the move to the Turkish side Fenerbahce stating that he was himself a fan of the slugs.
“I grew up as a Fenerbahce fan as a kid in Germany – every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany. And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in the country.”
