Arsenal & Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno
Huge news for Arsenal fans on Tuesday morning.
The Guardian have confirmed that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for their German international keeper Bernd Leno.
Readers are told the following:
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bernd Leno for an initial €22m (£19.2m) from Bayer Leverkusen.
Leno was an integral part of the Leverkusen side which finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, having begun his career at Stuttgart and it is understood that Arsenal could pay up to another £3m in bonuses as part of the deal.
Many Arsenal fans will consider that price tag to be an excellent fee considering just how shaky Arsenal’s goalies have been in recent times.
Leno moved to Leverkusen in 2013 from fellow German side Stuttgart for a fee in the region of £6.75 million.
Since signing for Leverkusen Leno has become a top quality shot-stopper. In 304 games for Leverkusen, he has kept a very impressive 100 clean sheets.
Petr Cech to leave Arsenal
Leno’s imminent Arsenal arrival could see Petr Cech leave the Gunners this summer.
Last season Cech was repeatedly criticised for his underwhelming performances for Arsenal.
Cech has been tipped to move to Napoli this off-season.
Sampdoria’s midfielder Lucas Torreira
The Guardian also post a short update on Arsenal’s attempts to sign Sampdoria’s defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira. That deal also seems to be on the verge f being completed:
Arsenal are also closing in on the signing of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira of Sampdoria for £25m.
Overall, the Gunners are on the way to being wholly transformed in 2018-19.
Unai Emery has left PSG to replace Arsene Wenger in Arsenal dugout. Emery has wasted little time overhauling the playing staff.
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also on course to join the Gunners this summer.
Sokratis, 29, is looking to leave Borussia Dortmund to gain for game time in north London.
