“It’s been an honor and a privilege”; Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin pens heartfelt goodbye to Steve Bruce

star forward Allan Saint-Maximin took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt tribute for Steve Bruce after the club’s new consortium ownership finally parted ways with the former Manchester United defender.

The Magpies lost 3-2 at the weekend to Tottenham at St. James’ Park in the first match of the new Public Investment Fund-led ownership group on Tyneside, with the ax eventually falling on Bruce’s head for the miserable start Newcastle has endured to open the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

But despite the constant criticism and downright abuse levied in the direction of his now former manager, Saint-Maximin spoke admirably of his former boss, thanking him for the time they spent together at the club;

“You are, without a doubt, one of the most gentle people that I have ever met in the world of football. You have been a man of your word, a caring man and a fair man who never hesitated to protect us. I will never forget how you treated me, for that I will be forever grateful.” Note: Quote taken from player’s official Twitter account.

New names linked with vacant Newcastle posting

With Steve Bruce now out at Newcastle, the club continue their search for his replacement with hopes that some semblance of stability can be brought to St. James’ Park quickly.

The latest rumored managerial candidates to have emerged to take over the reigns at Newcastle come in the vein of AS Roma’s Paulo Fonseca, and unattached duo Eddie Howe and former Borussia Dortmund headmaster Lucien Favre.

Fonseca was once nearly destined for a posting at Tottenham, though the north London club ultimately went with Nuno Espírito Santo in the end but it has been said that the Portuguese manager has been on the radar screen at Newcastle since the summer.

Favre has the managerial pedigree and track record that could right the ship on the Tyne while Howe brings ample experience in English football despite doing so at clubs far below the stature of Newcastle.

There is no telling which direction the club may take from here, but the laundry list of names speaks of a situation that may be far from a resolution.
