Guardiola on fan return

Man City boss Pep Guardiola spoke of the possibility of fans returning before the third national lockdown in the UK, and confirmed his confidence in the government’s decision-making:

“If they believe this is the best, we can do it, hopefully it will work and nothing wrong will happen. Everyone is [waiting] for fans to come back into stadiums,” he said.

“If the government have decided this it is because they have listened to the scientists and the doctors for what is the best for everyone.

“We are a lucky profession for the fact we can do our job. How many jobs are closed and will not reopen again? We are waiting to come back for our fans.”

City’s fans could return not only to see them lift a Premier League title, but even further trophies, according to the latest news.

8000 fans for final

It has been confirmed that the League Cup final between Manchester City and Spurs will see thousands of spectators enter the ground to watch the clash, with people from the local area taking priority.

Spurs and City supporters will also be able to attend, but no information regarding travelling restrictions has yet been revealed.

A statement on the Spurs website read:

‘We can confirm that our Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City has been approved as an official test event, with 8,000 spectators permitted to attend the Wembley showpiece.

‘A proportion of these tickets will be made available to both finalists, meaning fans from ourselves and Manchester City will be granted access to Wembley Stadium for the final on Sunday 25 April as part of the Government’s Events Research Programme.

‘Tickets will also be allocated to local residents in Brent as well as NHS staff as a thank you for their service during the COVID-19 pandemic.’

This marks more than double the number of spectators granted entry to stadiums between the second and third national lockdowns.

It will also be Spurs’ opportunity to clinch their first trophy since the League Cup in 2008.
