It’s the biggest game of the season to date for both Sampdoria and Lecce in Serie A with the away side sitting outside of the relegation zone after some recent positives just as Sampdoria are in 19th and with one win on the board.
In reality, a long and tiresome season fighting down at the bottom is in store for both of these sides, regardless of what happens in this game. The inconsistencies of the two barely justifies anything else, although Lecce have managed to win one more game and lose just six of the 14 matches.
One of those results for Lecce came in midweek as they managed to stun the top four-chasing Atalanta 2-1 on home soil. The club went 2-0 up inside 30 minutes, and although Atalanta pulled one back, Lecce were able to hang on and collect all three points in what was easily their result of the season.
As for Sampdoria, no side in the league has lost more games than them, with Hellas Verona in 20th also losing 10 games too. In fact, the only thing that separates them from Verona is how Sampdoria have managed to collect one more draw, as both sides have won only once in Serie A. At the same time, regardless of the scoreline here, the Genoa outfit are set to be in the relegation zone until January, as the gap is four points on 17th-placed Spezia.
