It’s the biggest game in Europe this weekend as the San Siro plays hosts to another Derby della Madonnina battle with Inter Milan now ahead of the champions AC Milan after a terrible run of form since the World Cup for the latter.
Not just have Milan rocketed down from second into fifth since action resumed in Italy, they even saw Inter beat them 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italia just three weeks ago. It was the 86th victory in the Milan derby for Inter as Federico Dimarco, Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko all scored in a comfortable win.
Simeone Inzaghi’s men are now into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia as well, as Matteo Darmian scored a second half winner against Atalanta at San Siro in midweek. Such results recently have drastically turned Inter’s season around.
Milan, however, are in tatters and only have a 2-1 win over Salernitana to boast of since the World Cup. In fact, after an incredible 5-2 loss at home to 16th-placed Sassuolo, the club have let in nine goals in two games.
Stefano Pioli has also seen his side get destroyed on the road against Lazio, but they could jump right back into second with a win here. Regardless, a victory over their city rivals should get Milan’s season back on track because nobody is going to catch Napoli now.
