Match Preview

Torino’s promising start to the new Italian football season will be put to the test this weekend when they meet with the newly-promoted Cremonese who are looking for their first points in Serie A since 1992.

It has been a 20-year wait for fans to see their side back in the top flight, and so far, it’s been a tough start. The club were beaten by Jose Mourinho’s Roma on the opening weekend, and registered only three shots on target against the defensive resilience of the Rome outfit.

Fiorentina were up next for the Serie B runners-up, and with them equalising twice in the game through David Okereke and Matteo Bianchetti, Cremonese fans can start to get a bit hopeful as they only lost the game following a goal in the dying seconds of extra time.

Cremonese have got a win under their belt, however, as they defeated Ternana 3-2 in the Coppa Italia, where Okereke scored once more with Giacomo Quagliata netting the winning goal. They are still in the relegation zone after two Serie A games, however, and a win is vital for them here against a Torino side who look like an improved product from last season.

The Turin team are coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Lazio last weekend, which although may read poorly, the fact they managed to keep Ciro Immobile quiet and remain unbeaten after three games is something to shout about.

Torino defeated Monza in their first league game with relative ease, as Aleksei Miranchuk and Antonio Sanabria scored a goal each in a 2-1 win. Ivan Juric’s side also played hosts to Palermo in the Coppa Italia three weeks ago, as Sasa Lukic, Nemanja Radonjic and Pietro Pellegri all scored a goal in a dominant display.

It’s not going to be easy against Cremonese, however, as they have still managed to look relatively decent in front of goal this season despite the defeats.
