Match preview

Roma and Atalanta will be aiming to put down their most convincing marker on the fight for the Serie A title this weekend with Jose Mourinho’s men welcoming the high-flying Bergamo outfit to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

It’s been a sensational first few weeks in Serie A. Both these two sides here and Napoli have all been fighting for top spot after six games, and with the likes of Udinese sitting fourth and Juventus and Inter Milan struggling to get into the top five, the winner of Serie A this season is anybody’s guess.

As of now, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are in second after their recent 1-1 draw with Cremonese moved them off top spot and put them back within one point of Roma. The Rome outfit are in fifth right now and have one loss and one defeat on their record so far, as they drew with Juventus in Turin and stunningly lost 4-0 away to Udinese who now sit just above them in the table.

On the other hand for Roma, with them letting in four goals in one game, it does mean they have managed to keep three clean sheets in Serie A so far, with a total of six goals let in. Mourinho guided his men to a 2-1 win against Empoli on Monday night, as Paulo Dybala scored again with a stunner from outside the box, just before the Argentine beautifully assisted the winner for Tammy Abraham.

Atalanta have also beaten Monza, Hellas Verona and Torino this season after their opening weekend win over Sampdoria. A 1-1 draw against champions AC Milan is perhaps a look into how this game could unfold, as Atalanta sit with the best defensive record in the league right now with three goals let in and 10 scored of their own.
