St Mirren vs Dundee United betting tips: Scottish Premiership preview, predictions and odds

St Mirren are unbeaten in five meetings with Dundee United, winning two, admittedly the other three have been goalless draws. The Tangerines are winless in seven league visits to Paisley, including the play-off final defeat on penalties in 2019.

Under 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Draw and under 2.5 goals is 13/5.

Connor Ronan's spectacular strike at Tynecastle last weekend was his eight goal of the season. He is 11/1 to break the deadlock and 9/2 to add to that tally.

Match preview

A huge game in the race for top six places.

Right now, the six teams from fourth to ninth are separated by just one point; extraordinary.

So, with just three games to go until the split, every point counts as all of those teams aim to take one of the three remaining top half spots.

Both of these two clubs have 36 points on the board with Dundee United two places higher on goal difference alone.

The Tangerines' last Premiership game resulted in an impressive 2-2 draw with Hearts; Liam Smith and Nicky Clark on target.

Tam Courts' side have only lost two of their last nine league games but they've also only won two of these.

As for St Mirren, Stephen Robinson claimed his first win as Buddies boss ten days ago, beating bottom of the table Dundee.

The only goal at Dens Park came in the 93rd minute with Connor Ronan's last-gasp header snatching the points.

Before this, the Saints had taken just one point from four games since Jim Goodwin's departure for Aberdeen.

Since then, both clubs have been in Scottish Cup quarter-final action but both have suffered elimination.

On Saturday night, St Mirren were 2-0 down at Tynecastle, but then got it back to 2-2 completely out of nowhere.

Eamonn Brophy scoring before Ronan equalised with an astonishing long-range strike; a serious contender for goal of the season.

However, this would be in vain as Hearts scored twice late on to book their place at Hampden.

Then, on Monday night, Dundee United were easily swatted aside in their tie by league-leaders Celtic at Tannadice.

Back in the Premiership, will there be a winner at the SMISA Stadium?

St Mirren team news

Stephen Robinson has been switching between a back four and back five since arriving in Paisley.

The case for the latter is that he has three excellent centre-backs at his disposal; Joe Shaughnessy, Conor McCarthy and Charlie Dunne.

In front, Alex Gogić and Alan Power are a solid midfield pairing, allowing Connor Ronan to get forward and cause danger.

Eamonn Brophy is fit again so will lead the line, over Curtis Main or Alex Greive

Dundee United team news

Goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has been excellent since arriving at Dundee United, but his mistake gifted Celtic the second goal on Monday night.

Nevertheless, the 30 year old will continue in goal, looking for his 52nd clean sheet for the club.

In defence, Charlie Mulgrew could return alongside Calum Butcher and Ryan Edwards if the visitors switch to a three-at-the-back.

With star signing Tony Watt injured, Marc McNulty and Nicky Clark will continue to lead the attack.
