St Johnstone vs Aberdeen betting tips: Scottish Premiership preview, predictions and odds

Aberdeen have won their last two visit to Perth but, before that, had only won five of their last 13 games at McDiarmid Park. The last 11 encounters between these two have produced a measly 20 goals, only one of which has seen more than two goals.

Under 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Draw and under 2.5 goals is 11/5.

Callum Hendry scored in his last appearance against Aberdeen in February. He is 6/1 to break the deadlock and 12/5 to score anytime.

Match preview

St Johnstone's fate now appears to be sealed.

Last season, the Saints were the double cup winners, beginning this campaign with a glamour European tie against Galatasaray.

Now though, Callum Davidson's side will almost certainly face the dreaded relegation play-off as they fight for their Premiership lives.

On Saturday, the Saints almost won at the Tony Macaroni Arena, Glenn Middleton opening the scoring, only for Livingston to equaliser in stoppage time.

This means the Saints are now winless in four and this draw ensures they will finish in the bottom two.

With foot of the table Dundee six points behind, that gap should be insurmountable, St Johnston are almost certainly going to finish 11th.

Thus, they'll face Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Arbroath in a two legged tie, on 20 and 23 May, with their top-flight status on the line.

Before then, can the 2021 cup-double winners boost their confidence and find some form?

Aberdeen meanwhile have also endured a season to forget.

The Dons finished second, third or fourth in each of the last eight seasons, but are rooted in the bottom six for the first time in nine years.

Jim Goodwin's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday, taking the lead in Edinburgh thanks to David Bates.

This means the new manager has won just two of his ten matches in charge, leaving his side down in tenth place.

The Dons last finished that low in 2004.

There's little on this one, so will there be a winner at McDiarmid Park?

St Johnstone team news

Craig Bryson, David Wotherspoon and Chris Kane are all out long-term.

Without Kane, top-scorer Callum Hendry will continue to lead the line with Stevie May displacing Nadir Çiftçi as his partner.

Shaun Rooney is fit again so will start over Tom Sang at right-wing-back.

Glenn Middleton's goal off the bench against Livingston could see him start this one.

Aberdeen team news

Christian Ramirez may have scored 15 goals this season but only four of those have come in 2022.

Thus, Marley Watkins was given a rare start at Hibs on Saturday.

Dante Polvara was also a surprise inclusion at Easter Road in midfield.

Funso Ojo, Andy Considine, Connor McLennan and Ramirez could all come back into the XI.
