Who will boost their top six hopes with a crucial victory in North Lanarkshire?

Motherwell's long winless run continued a fortnight ago as they were beaten 2-1 by St Johnstone and McDiarmid Park, despite taking the lead through Kevin van Veen.

So, Graham Alexander's side are now winless in 11 Premiership fixtures, dating all the way back to Boxing Day.

This has seen them drop from fourth all the way down to their current position of eight, in serious danger of another bottom half finish.

St Mirren also have 36 points and a goal difference of -14, meaning they are only below the Well on goals scored.

Also like their hosts, the Buddies were beaten 2-1 before the international break, despite taking an early lead.

Jay Henderson opened the scoring at St Mirren Park 14 days ago but Dundee United left Paisley 2-1 winners, scoring in the 96th minute.

So, Stephen Robinson's side have lost four of their last five outings, only beating bottom of the table Dundee in this period.

Given that the Saints face Rangers in the final game before the split, they really need to win this one to sneak into the top half.

Robinson led Motherwell to both cup finals in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2020, but there's no room for sentiment in his first return.

Graham Alexander switched to a back three for their last game but this didn't help arrest their sequence of games without a victory.

Bevis Mugabi hasn't started since the 2-2 draw at Ibrox six weeks ago so it'll be interesting to see if he returns here.

In midfield, with Barry Maguire injured, Dean Cornelius and Liam Donnelly will keep their places.

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was sent off in the defeat to Dundee United last time out so Dean Lyness will deputise between the sticks.

Elsewhere, if Stephen Robinson reverts to a back three, Conor McCarthy will return alongside Charlie Dunne and Joe Shaughnessy.

Connor Ronan remains their main goal threat, having scored eight times this season, including a stunner at Tynecastle last month.
