Motherwell vs Heart of Midlothian betting tips: Scottish Premiership preview, predictions and odds

All three meetings between these two this season have produced 2-0 home wins. Hearts have only won two of their last seven matches at Fir Park, most recently advancing through a League Cup tie 2-1 in 2019. Hearts have only lost ten of 45 matches in all competitions this season, six of which have been against the Old Firm.

Both teams to score is 3/4.

Kevin van Veen has now scored 11 goals for Motherwell. The Dutch striker is 5/1 to break the deadlock and 13/8 to score in back-to-back Premiership games for only the second time.

Liam Boyce has scored six goals against Motherwell in his career, only netting against three Scottish clubs more frequently. He is also 5/1 to open the scoring and 13/8 to add to his tally.

Match preview

Will Motherwell rubber stamp their ticket into Europe for next season?

On Saturday, Graham Alexander's side took a huge step towards this objective, beating direct-rivals Ross County 1-0 in Dingwall.

Kevin van Veen, who hadn't scored since mid-March before this, the only goal-scorer in the Highlands, converting from the penalty spot.

As a result, the Steelmen have leapfrogged Ross County in the table so are now fifth, occupying the final Europa Conference League spot.

Given that the Well visit Celtic Park on Saturday, they'll be desperate for points here, hoping to pull and insurmountable distance ahead of Ross County.

The Staggies face Rangers simultaneously to this game, so a Motherwell win could wrap up a top five finish.

Heart of Midlothian meanwhile will be in UEFA competition next season, all the way up to 3 November.

The Jambos have secured third-place, which'll see them compete in the Europa League play-off round in late-August.

Regardless of the outcome of that tie, Hearts are guaranteed to play eight matches in Europe next season, a real game-changer for the whole club.

In the more immediate future, Robbie Neilson's side will contest the Scottish Cup Final, taking on Rangers at Hampden in ten days time.

Thus, Hearts want to go into that massive occasion with some sort of momentum.

On Saturday, they lost for the first time since 19 February, going down 4-1 at Celtic Park, despite taking a third-minute lead through Ellis Simms' lashed finish.

Will Motherwell secure fourth/fifth place or will Hearts leave Fir Park victorious?

Motherwell team news

Kevin van Veen's match-winner on Saturday off the bench should see him start this one in attack.

Right-wing-back Stephen O'Donnell has been struggling for fitness lately but should keep his place for this one too.

Centre-back Bevis Mugabi is out injured.

Heart of Midlothian team news

Ellis Simms and Liam Boyce have both been in good goal-scorer form and will continue to lead the line.

Craig Halkett is out injured but defensive options have been boosted by the return of both Michael Smith and John Souttar.

The pair were both substitute at Parkhead on Saturday, but both could feature here.
