In truth, it’s been coming for some time but, on Wednesday night, Dundee were officially relegated straight back to the Scottish Championship.
It was a mixed week for the Dee who, on Tuesday, finally won, doing so for the first time since 9 February.
Niall McGinn and Josh Mulligan were both on target before Charlie Adam’s long-range screamer secure a 3-1 victory over Hibernian.
That was Mark McGhee’s first victory as Dark Blues boss, coming at the 12th attempt.
Thus, it was too late to save them because, 24 hours later, St Johnstone beat Aberdeen, thereby confirming Dundee’s relegation.
The Dark Blues have won just six games all season so, after the jubilation of play-off success a year ago, comes the disappear of being back in the second-tier.
In contrast to their more historically successful opponents, Livingston continue to punch above their weight.
The Lions were held to a goalless draw at St Mirren Park on Wednesday so are now unbeaten in five matches.
This result confirmed that Davie Martindale’s men will finish seventh as the best of the bottom half.
Since back-to-back promotions in 2018, Livi have now finished ninth, fifth, sixth and seventh, also reaching last season’s League Cup Final.
They have one of the smallest budgets in the Premiership but Livingston continue to finish above bigger clubs, including Dundee.
The home side will fancy their chances of victory at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Max Stryjek picked up a retrospective two-match ban against Aberdeen in Livi’s first post-split fixture.
However, despite Stryjek being available agin, Ivan Konovalov continued between the sticks on Wednesday.
Top-scorer Bruce Anderson is out injured, meaning Joel Nouble will continue to lead the line.

Boyhood Dundee fan Charlie Adam has intimated that he could retire at the end of this season.
If the 36 year old isn’t around for next season’s Championship campaign, this’ll be the 499th and last game of his club career.
The Dee are without Adam Legzdins and Ian Lawlor, so third-choice goalkeeper Harry Sharp, who’s only 21 year old, will keep his place.
Niall McGinn was expected to be a key figure this season, but only scored his first Dundee goal in the Premiership on Tuesday night.
