Match preview

This season is the first since 2004/05 where the big two from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee have all been in the top-flight together.

However, that might not be the case next season with the Dundee derby's place on the calendar under serious threat.

That's because the Dark Blues are currently rock bottom of the Premiership table and in major danger of going straight back down again.

Last weekend, Mark McGhee's side held Aberdeen to a 2-2 draw at Dens with Jordan McGhee and then Danny Mullen scoring.

However, since the change of management, Dundee are still winless, accumulating just three points from seven outings.

This means the Dee are now six points below St Johnstone in the relegation play-off place and 12 points adrift guaranteed safety.

In stark contrast to their rivals from just 322 metres down the road, Dundee United are aiming for a European return after a decade away.

The Tangerines held Hibernian to a 1-1 draw last weekend with Ross Graham opening the scoring at Easter Road.

So, Tam Courts' side have only lost one of their nine fixtures since the start of February and are fourth, almost assured of a top six spot.

Everything points towards a home win at Tannadice.

Dundee United team news

Big-money January signing Tony Watt is now back to full fitness and this is a major boost as United look to finish in the top four.

He partnered Marc McNulty, as usual, but last weekend they had Nicky Clark in behind.

American Ian Harkes, who scored a spectacular winner in the first derby this season, has missed the last two games due to injury.

Dundee team news

The visitors will be hoping Danny Mullen can continue his good form having scored three goals in his last five appearances.

Charlie Adam returned after injured off the bench against Aberdeen but will surely captain his boyhood club from the start here.

With goalkeeper Adam Legzdins out, Ian Lawlor could continue to deputise, chosen over 21 year old Harry Sharp.
