Match preview

After a goalless first leg at Caledonian Stadium on Tuesday night, it's all to play for as these two meet again in Angus.

In truth, their first meeting this week won't live on in the memory, with Inverness managing just one shot on target to Arbroath's two.

Logan Chalmers did go close to breaking the deadlock for the hosts on the stroke of half time with his shot thwacking back off the crossbar.

Arbroath also created some decent opening, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough in the Highlands.

Now, will the Smokies make home advantage count?

The fact Arbroath are within touching distance of Premiership promotion, for the first time in their entire history, is a fairytale story.

Dick Campbell's team are the only part-time club in Scotland's second-tier, so for them to finish second is a remarkable achievement.

The Red Lichties actually came agonisingly close to winning the Championship title.

In the end, they missed out by two points, largely as a result of a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at champions Kilmarnock in the penultimate game of the season.

Now, can Arbroath make it through to the play-off final and keep the dream alive?

Inverness, in contrast, were a top-flight club between 2010 and 2017, winning the Scottish Cup and playing in Europe during this period.

However, since relegation five years ago, they've been rooted in the second-tier, falling at this hurdle of the play-offs in 2019.

Just to get through to this tie, Caley Thistle had to see off Partick Thistle in the quarter-final last week.

Shane Sutherland and Austin Samuels scoring in a comeback victory in Glasgow, before Samuels got the only goal back in the Highlands.

Now, to make the final, Billy Dodds' side need to repeat their win at Arbroath from the opening day of the season.

Will David or Goliath, in historical and financial terms, get through at Gayfield?

Arbroath team news

Dick Campbell had made a few changes for the final day of the regular league season, but all of his big guns were back in for the first leg.

This saw Craig Wighton back on the bench with top-scorer Michael McKenna, who netted 15 times this season, in-behind Jack Hamilton.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle team news

For Caley Thistle, their key man is experienced centre-back Kirk Broadfoot who leads the team from defence.

Austin Samuels' goal in both legs of the previous round might earn him a start, despite the fact he'd only scored once for the club before this.

Logan Chalmers, Billy McKay and Shane Sutherland will complete a high-quality attacking quartet.
