The Premier League title race for 2021/22 is proving to be one of the closest-fought for years, with Liverpool once again looking to topple Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side have led the way at the top of the table since Christmas, however, Liverpool remain in hot pursuit.
Here 101 Great Goals looks at Premier League title odds for the 2021/22 season and whether the title will be returning to Manchester City or whether Jurgen Klopp’s men can pip them at the final hurdle.
Manchester City slip up at the London Stadium
Manchester City’s draw at the London Stadium has just about left the door open ajar for Liverpool in their pursuit of the defending champions.
Guardiola’s men were only able to pick up a point against West Ham United as they drew 2-2.
City looked set for defeat in east London but they managed to battle back from 2-0 down to salvage a point.
Their previous two matches saw them produce an emphatic response to their Champions League exit as they thrashed both Newcastle and Wolves.
Man City now lead the way at the top by four points although the Reds still have a game in hand over them.
Klopp’s team travel to Southampton on Tuesday evening with three points an absolute must.
Meanwhile, City’s final game of the season sees them host Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, in what could make for a very interesting storyline.
Following game week 37, Manchester City are now 1/10 to reclaim the title.
Liverpool offered a glimmer of hope
Liverpool secured the second of potentially four trophies this season as they won the FA Cup over the weekend.
The Reds are bidding for a historic quadruple with the Premier League title and the Champions League now in their sights.
Klopp’s men defeated Chelsea on penalties at Wembley to win the FA Cup, just as they did to win the Carabao Cup back in March.
Meanwhile, also over the weekend, they watched on as Manchester City dropped two points away at West Ham.
The draw leaves them with plenty of work still to do, but it at least offers them a glimmer of hope.
They head to Southampton on Tuesday evening with the chance to close the gap down to just a point with a win.
The final day of the season will see Liverpool host Wolves and just hoping that City drop points against Aston Villa.
Should Liverpool win the title from here, it would be one of the most dramatic finishes to a Premier League title race since Aguero’s 93:20 moment back in 2012.
The Merseyside club are 7/1 to stun City by winning the title.
