Betting prediction: Wolves 2 – 1 Newcastle United

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcomes Newcastle to Molineux on Saturday for this Premier League match.

The Magpies have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with 2 wins to Wolves’ 1, from their 12 encounters in the Premier League.

The real story, though, is the outrageous number of draws between the two sides, with 9 of the 12 matches so far (or 75%) ending in a stalemate. This includes each of the last 5 matches in this head-to-head.

Wolves vs Newcastle United: Recommended bets

The last time either side picked up a win in this head-to-head was a 1-2 win for Wolves in Newcastle back in 2018. 101 Great Goals’ prediction of Wolves 2 – 1 Newcastle is available at odds of 9/1.

3-2 Wolves win. Wolves’ last home victory over Newcastle came in the FA Cup back in 2003 by a scoreline of 3-2. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 29/1.

1-1 draw. Each of the last 5 matches between these clubs have finished 1-1, including both matches last season. Odds of 8/1 are available if you see this match finishing with their favourite final score.

0-1 Newcastle win. Newcastle’s last win at Molineux was back in the Championship season of 2016/17. You can back them at 15/1 for the same 0-1 scoreline here on Saturday.

Under 2.5 goals. Neutrals will be hoping the recent trend of low-scoring Wolves vs Newcastle matches does not hold. Each of the last 5 matches in this head-to-head have been under 2.5 goal games, as well as 8 of the last 9. You can back another low scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 1.9/1 for under 2.5 goals.

Raúl Jiménez Goalscorer. Last weekend Raúl (pictured below) bagged his first goal since returning from his horrific head injury in the 0-1 win at Southampton. The Mexican international also opened the scoring here last season before the Geordies grabbed a late equaliser. The 30-year-old forward is the 4.33/1 favourite to score the game’s opener once again on Saturday. Or 2/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Newcastle.

Wolves vs Newcastle United: What are the betting odds?

Wolves have never won a home Premier League match against Newcastle. Despite this, they are 1.6/1 favourites to take all 3 points from the Geordies on Saturday.

Whereas, the Magpies are 5.25/1 to pick up a first Premier League away win in exactly 10 years at Molineux.

Odds of 4/1 are available if you see Wolves and Newcastle cancelling each other out for a 6th consecutive match on Saturday.

Wolves vs Newcastle United: Match preview

As has often been the case in recent seasons, it was events surrounding ownership and takeovers that dominated local papers in Newcastle this week.

The club are currently locked in arbitration with the Premier League over their takeover bid. The Premier League’s QC this week said the bid would proceed if it is decided that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not a director.

It was also revealed by St James’ Holdings Limited representative Daniel Jowell that the Premier League had threatened to throw the club out of the competition due to unsigned paperwork.

This is the backdrop at the moment for Newcastle’s season, in which they are still winless after 7 games, having picked up just 3 Premier League points, and have already been dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Burnley.

Talk this summer, as has proven the case every summer in recent memory, heavily focused on owner Mike Ashley’s lack of investment in the club. The Geordies made just one signing: Joe Willock’s loan deal from Arsenal being made permanent for £26.5m.

For many fans, the problem is in the manager more than the players, with Steve Bruce the target of a lot of criticism during his time at the club. His defensive approach of having a flat-back 5 or a 4-5-1 formation almost every game is doing little to win over Newcastle fans who remember fondly the Kevin Keegan years in the Premier League of being one of the most entertaining sides in the country.

Wolves, on the other hand, seem to be turning the corner under new boss Bruno Lage. After 3-straight defeats to start the season, they have come back after the international break to win 2 of their last 3 Premier League games.

Defeat to 10-man Brentford as well as being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Spurs suggests there is still a long way to go for Lage. However, talk about relegation battles has subsided for now and if Raul Jiminez finds the goalscoring form that saw him linked with Manchester United prior to his injury, they could rapidly climb the table.

Wolves team news vs Newcastle United

Rayan Ait Nouri has had a difficult start to the season and has only featured in 1 Premier League game so far. He got his chance with a rare start against Spurs in the EFL Cup last week but suffered a head injury and was replaced due to concussion protocols. Therefore, he will be unavailable here for Saturday’s game.

Yerson Mosquera also suffered an injury in the match against Spurs. Sadly for Mosquera, it appears to be a high-grade hamstring injury which will see him ruled out until 2022.

He joins Pedro Neto and Jonny Otto on the long-term injury list after the pair had knee surgery over the summer.

Young fringe players Hugo Bueno, Oskar Buur and Bruno Jordão are also ruled out of Saturday’s match.

Adama Traore, Trincao and Ruben Neves were all on the bench last weekend as Wolves defeated Southampton. Will Bruno Lage stick with a winning side or be tempted to bring in any or all of the talented trio?

Newcastle United team news vs Wolves

The Magpies have had no luck in the goalkeeping department so far this season.

Martin Dubravka remains ruled out with an ankle injury. He looks likely to be out until November due to an infection setting him back further.

Freddie Woodman, who started the season between the sticks, has picked up a knock and will now miss this match.

Karl Darlow, who is only back from injury too, will start the match for Newcastle with Mark Gillespie on the bench. Gillespie hasn’t ever played above League One level in the English footballing pyramid.

Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett are nearing a return to play sometime after the upcoming international break. However, neither is available for this match.

Jamaal Lascelles missed last weekend’s draw at Watford with a thigh injury. He is another who will be back after the internationals. Federico Fernández and Ciaran Clark will continue in a back 4.

Callum Wilson has missed the Geordies’ last 3 games with a hamstring problem and remains unavailable here. Joelinton looks set to continue in attack in his absence.
