Wolves vs Manchester City: Recommended bets

Both teams to score. With Aymeric Laporte a doubt, and Nathan Ake potentially making his debut, Wolves will be confident of breaking down Man City’s backline.

Over 2.5 goals. Nine of Manchester City’s last 10 Premier League games have produced three or more goals.

Phil Foden to score. Although he’s no absolutely guaranteed to start, Foden ended last season in decent goalscoring form, finishing the season with eight goals to his name. With David Silva gone, Foden is likely to get a lot more game time this year.

Wolves vs Manchester City: Match preview

Wolves host Manchester City at Molineux on Monday night.

Wolves got off to a winning start last weekend with a 2-0 win at Sheffield United, thanks to two very early goals from Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss.

Wolves were in action again in midweek for their Carabao Cup 2nd round tie against Stoke. Nuno Espirito Santo made wholesale changes for the midweek clash, although Adama Traore, Conor Coady, and Romain Saiss were among those to keep their place in the side.

Wolves lost the match 1-0 after conceding a goal five minutes from time.

Manchester City were exempt from playing last weekend as they were given an extra week off due to their extended Champions League participation in August.

Wolves have only lost one of their last four matches against Manchester City in all competitions. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side did the Premier League double over City last season. Man City’s last win at Molineux came back in April 2012.

These two sides have met 12 times in the Premier League. Manchester City have won exactly half of those matches, losing four and drawing two.

Last season’s corresponding fixture finished 3-2 to Wolves following an incredible comeback. Ederson was sent off early in the first half before Raheem Sterling gave 10-man City the lead.

Sterling doubled City’s lead minutes into the second half but Wolves managed to turn the game on its head with three goals of their own through Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez, and the now-departed Matt Doherty.

Wolves team news vs Manchester City

Diogo Jota has joined Liverpool, so Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence should keep their places either side of Raul Jimenez.

Jonny Castro Otto is Wolves’ only long-term. The fullback is sidelined with an ACL injury.

Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Fernando Marcal were unused substitutes in midweek, suggesting they’ll start this match.

Leander Dendoncker and Moutinho started in central midfield last weekend, leaving Ruben Neves on the bench.

Wolves confirmed the signing of 18-year-old defender Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool on Saturday, although he is not expected to be involved on Monday.

Manchester City team news vs Wolves

Given that this is Manchester City’s first game of the season, as well as the number of options Pep Guardiola has available, predicting Monday’s line-up is a tall order.

Guardiola has revealed that Sergio Aguero could be sidelined for up to two months with a knee injury, so Gabriel Jesus is expected to continue up front.

Riyad Mahrez is available after being quarantined following a positive Covid-19 test. Aymeric Laporte, who also tested positive, remains a potential fitness doubt, so Nathan Ake could make his debut.

Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zincehnko were absent from training on Wednesday, suggesting Benjamin Mendy could start at left-back.

Rodri is likely to start in the anchor role ahead of 35-year-old Fernandinho.

Bernardo Silva is expected to shake off a recent muscle problem, although he may have to settle for a place on the bench.
