Will Wolverhampton Wanderers win again?

On Wednesday night, Wolves beat Brighton 1-0 at the Amex with the only goal coming in first half stoppage time.

A corner was not cleared so the ball was chipped back into the area by Rúben Neves before being smartly finished by Romain Saïss.

How the game finished 1-0, though, is a miracle, with both sides squandering clear-cut chances.

Marçal hit the crossbar, Saïss smacked the post while Francisco Trincão and then Daniel Podence both put efforts straight at the goalkeeper.

Nevertheless, the visitors left Sussex by the Sea with the victory, continuing their impressive campaign.

Before this, Bruno Lage’s side had lost back-to-back games but, in fairness, they were both 1-0 and came against the Premier League’s top two, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Overall, Wolves have lost just three of their last 12, amassing 21 points in this period.

So, they are currently eighth, albeit with the table somewhat all over the place due to postponements left, right and centre.

Since promotion back to the Premier League in 2018, these two clubs have met three times at Molineux.

Wolves have won two of them including last season, both 2-1, but the Blues enjoyed a 5-2 success in between.

Who will win this time in the Black Country?

Can Chelsea claim all three points?

Chelsea travel to the West Midlands in desperate need of a victory.

Many tipped the European champions for Premier League glory this season, but they are struggling to keep pace with the two front-runners.

On Thursday, the Blues welcomed an Everton side to Stamford Bridge who were practically down to the bare bones.

Thus, a home win seemed a forgone conclusion, particularly when Mason Mount smashed his team in front in the 70th minute.

But, just four minutes later, the Toffees bundled in a shock equaliser and managed to hold on for a point.

That is two more points dropped for Chelsea who’ve now only won three of their last seven Premier League games.

They’d previously drawn with Burnley and Manchester United and lost their last away game to West Ham.

Throw in the 3-3 draw with Zenit Saint Petersburg 11 days ago, and Thomas Tuchel’s team are six games without a clean sheet, conceding 11 times.

So, they are third in the Premier League table, three points behind Liverpool and four adrift of Manchester City.

The Blues will face both of their title rivals in January, hosting Liverpool just after New Years’ Day before travelling to the Etihad 13 days later.

As a result, they cannot let the gap grow any wider before those two huge fixtures.

Will Chelsea get back to winning ways at Molineux?

Of course, team news for any club is subject to Covid-19 tests in the current climate.

But, Bruno Lage will be hoping to name an even stronger XI than the one that beat Brighton on Wednesday.

José Sá has started all 17 Premier League games since arriving from Olympiacos, conceding just 14 times.

In defence, they’re still without Yerson Mosquera and Jonny, but Willy Boly was back amongst the substitutes at the Amex.

Nevertheless, captain Conor Coady will continue at the heart of the defence with Max Kilman and midweek match-winner Romain Saïss either side.

Rayan Aït-Nouri missed that match so, if he’s unavailable again, Marçal will deputise at left-wing-back.

In the middle, Rúben Neves and João Moutinho could keep their places, chosen over Leander Dendoncker.

In attack, though, is where Lage has big decisions to make.

Hwang Hee-chan hobbled off early at Brighton so is unlikely to feature in this game.

But Raúl Jiménez is back after serving his one-match suspension in midweek.

So, the Mexican is expected to lead the line with Daniel Podence and Francisco Trincão in support.

This would see Adama Traoré once again reduced to the role of super sub, sat alongside Fábio Silva in reserve.

Will Wolves enjoy a memorable victory?

Chelsea, meanwhile, had four players test positive for Covid-19 on Thursday morning, but their match against Everton still went ahead.

Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell were the players, and the Blues can now only hope that no more are affected.

Édouard Mendy remains an important figure in goal, despite his own dip in form.

At the back, 37-year-old Thiago Silva could start once again with Antonio Rüdiger and club captain César Azpilicueta either side.

Andreas Christensen and fit again Trevoh Chalobah are the other centre-back options.

At wing-back, Chelsea are short of options, though, so Reece James and Marcos Alonso are expected to start here again.

In the middle, they’re still without Mateo Kovačić and N’Golo Kanté due to injury.

So, Jorginho’s partner is likely to continue to be Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with Saúl Ñíguez not trusted by the manager.

In attack, Lukaku, Hudson-Odoi, Werner and Havertz are all unavailable due to either Covid-19 or illness.

So, as was the case on Thursday, it’s likely to be Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic who make up the attacking trio.

Ross Barkley is the only real alternative on the bench.

Despite all of the absences, this is still a very strong Chelsea XI, so will it prove too much for Wolves?
