Match preview

In terms of characters, this is the longest name of a fixture in English top-flight history (49).

However, in characteristics terms, these two share very little, as they’re on opposite trajectories.

Brighton & Hove Albion are proudly sitting eighth in the table, following last weekend’s hammering of Chelsea.

Given that it was Graham Potter’s first return to the Amex, the 32,000 in attendance were all desperate to get one over their former boss.

The Seagulls, astonishingly, led 3-0 at the break, with Leandro Trossard breaking the deadlock, followed by a pair of own goals.

Chelsea did get back into it, but any hope of a comeback was quelled when Pascal Groß sealed a famous 4-1 win.

This was the first victory of the Roberto De Zerbi era, and what a way to do it.

Now, having enjoyed a thumping 3-0 win at Molineux in April, Brighton are aiming to win successive trips to the Black Country for the first time in 31 years.

This seems a distinct possibility, given Wolverhampton Wanderers’ current predicament.

Wolves did pick up a point last weekend, courtesy of Rúben Neves’ sweet equaliser at the Brentford Community Stadium.

However, Steve Davis’ side have only won one of their last seven, so remain 19th, with only Nottingham Forest below them.

Will this one go to form?

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

Diego Costa will not feature again until Boxing Day after being set off for a head-butt last weekend.

So, with Saša Kalajdžić and Raúl Jiménez out long-term, Hee-chan Hwang is set to lead the line, starting for the first time since August.

João Moutinho could return to midfield, alongside compatriots Rúben Neves and Matheus Nunes, with Boubacar Traoré dropping out.

20 year old Bueno is set to continue at left-back, chosen over Jonny and Rayan Aït-Nouri.

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

Roberto De Zerbi only made one change to his starting XI across his first five matches, before being forced to shake it up last weekend.

Danny Welbeck missed the Chelsea win due to illness, but could be back up front here.

Similarly, defender Joël Veltman sat out the game due to injury, but will return if fit.

Leandro Trossard scored the first five goals of the De Zerbi era, taking his tally to seven for the campaign.

He also netted when Brighton won 3-0 at Molineux in April.

As did Alexis Mac Allister, who is one yellow card away from missing next weekend’s game against Aston Villa through a ban.
