Betting prediction: West Ham 3 – 0 Norwich City

West Ham welcome Norwich to the London Stadium on Wednesday for this Premier League match. This is a re-arranged fixture originally due to take place in mid-December. However, the match was postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the City camp which, in addition to the injuries and other illnesses in the playing staff, left them unable to complete the fixture.

The Irons have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with four wins to Norwich City’s two, from their 12 encounters in the Premier League. The Hammers are also coming out on top when looking across all competitive matches between the two clubs, with 30 wins to 22 dating back to 1905.

West Ham completed a league double the last time these sides met in the Premier League. This included a thumping 4-0 win at Carrow Road which marks the last time the two clubs faced each other back in July 2020.

West Ham vs Norwich City: Recommended bets

101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is West Ham 3 – 0 Norwich City and is available at odds of 8.5/1.

2-2 draw. Both matches between these sides had the same 2-2 scoreline when they faced each other back in the 2015/16 season. They also drew 2-2 back in 1995 making this the most popular scoreline in Premier League matches in his head-to-head. Odds of 29/1 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.

0-2 Norwich City win. You need to go back to 1989 and the old Division One to find the last Norwich away win against the Irons. You can back the Canaries at 51/1 for the same 0-2 scoreline here on Wednesday.

Over 2.5 goals. West Ham vs Norwich City in the Premier League has often been a high scoring game with four of the six matches ending in over 2.5 goal games. You can back another high scoring game here on Wednesday with odds of 1.66/1 for over 2.5 goals.

Michail Antonio Goalscorer. Antonio (below) is the Irons’ top scorer this season with eight league goals. He comes into this match in good form too, with two goals in his last three league games. Norwich fans will remember Antonio too after hammering four goals against them when the sides last met at Carrow Road. The 31-years-old forward is the 4.5/1 favourite to score the game’s opener on Wednesday. Or 1.95/1 to bag his fifth Premier League goal against the Canaries at any time during the game.

West Ham vs Norwich City: Match preview

It is common in football that when a new manager arrives at a club we see a sudden uptick in results.

Often this is a psychological phenomenon where the physical change in manager gives renewed motivation and belief to the players. As Charles Dickens said “Change begets change. Nothing propagates so fast.” Thus, it is expected with the change in manager will come a change and results and that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. For a while at least.

Ultimately though, you have the same quality of players at your disposal as the last guy. If those players simply are not good enough to compete in the Premier League, then the ‘new manager bounce’ as it is dubbed in the media will be a short one. For Dean Smith’s Canaries, it was just three games. A win in his first match in charge was followed by two draws. Since then, a run of five straight league defeats suggests they are right back where they started.

Of course, the transfer market is open allowing Norwich to strengthen the squad. However, having invested £60m in the summer to bring in 11 new faces on loan or permanently, little is expected from the Canaries this winter. Not least due to the fears of being saddled with a huge wage bill should they get relegated to the Championship.

The only transfer news surrounding the club right now is the story that Todd Cantwell could join Newcastle for between £9m and £18m. Given that Cantwell has managed just five league starts this season, not to mention Daniel Farke’s comments in the past on him being left out of the squad due to a lack of focus in training, it is possible this deal would be best for all parties.

In contrast, David Moyes seems to have recovered from a difficult spell of four defeats and a draw in a five-game winless run in December. His Hammers have won each of their last three games in all competitions and come into this match having comfortably seen off Leeds in the FA Cup here at the weekend.

With further key players to return from injury and international duty in near future, not to mention rumours of Gabriel Barbosa, Dele Alli and Jonathan David arriving in January, things are looking up for West Ham once again.

West Ham team news vs Norwich City

Said Benrahma (above) is the only Irons player involved in the African Cup of Nations. The 26-years-old winger missed out on Algerian’s win in 2019 due to injury but should be a key player for them as they look to retain the trophy.

Angelo Ogbonna remains on the long-term injury list following his knee injury against Liverpool. He likely won’t feature again for the Hammers until late-2022.

Aaron Cresswell is still ruled out with the lower back injury that has caused him to miss West Ham’s last 7 games. No date has been confirmed yet for his return suggesting the club are reviewing on a week to week basis.

Kurt Zouma has missed the last five games with a hamstring tendon injury. He is nearing a return to action and has an outside chance of being involved here.

Vladimir Coufal missed the FA Cup match against Leeds at the weekend due to illness. He is rated as 50/50 to be involved here. Ryan Fredericks will be ready to retain the right-back berth in his absence.

Norwich City team news vs West Ham

Christoph Zimmermann is yet to feature for Norwich in the league this season. He is still recovering from an ankle problem and will only begin running again later this month.

Lukas Rupp is also ruled out with the hamstring injury that has caused him to miss the Canaries’ last 3 league games.

Jonathan Rowe missed the FA Cup win over Charlton due to COVID-19. He remains ruled out for the trip to London here.

Andrew Omobamidele has missed the last four league matches with a lower back injury. Smith has confirmed Omobamidele has had a further scan but isn’t much closer to starting games again for Norwich.

Mathias Normann is still rehabbing the pelvic injury that has saw him miss the last 6 league games for the Canaries. He is back on the treadmill running and without pain but it could still be a number of weeks before we see him available for selection.

Billy Gilmour missed the FA Cup match at the weekend with a high ankle strain. He remains a major doubt for Wednesday.

Todd Cantwell has been missing from the squad recently. Manager Dean Smith poured cold water on reports that this is due to a potential move to Newcastle, stating he was absent due to illness. He has an outside chance of being on the bench here.
