Betting prediction: West Ham 1-2 Liverpool
West Ham United deserve all the plaudits they have received of late while riding a six-match unbeaten run (including four wins on the bounce) that sees them in touching distance of cracking the top four.
But it’s hard to see them continue their rich vein of form against a Liverpool side who have only been let down by their finishing during their poor run of results. Their 3-1 win at Tottenham in midweek showed what they’re still well-and-truly capable of.
West Ham vs Liverpool: Recommended bets
Result/Both teams to score: Liverpool – Yes
Cream more often than not rises to the top in football. Though Liverpool have struggled to string together results of late, a comprehensive win against Tottenham is an indicator that any hiccup can likely be overcome by the Reds. West Ham remain a very capable side and their form cannot be discounted. The nature of Liverpool’s selection issues at the back makes this a very intriguing and hard match to call, but the champions should have enough to see it out.
Tomas Soucek to score anytime
Seven goals this season is a considerable return for a midfielder who excels in the middle and defensive third’s of the pitch, but Czech international Tomas Soucek has been quite the goal threat overall this term. With Liverpool missing some key figures in defense, Soucek could find joy off set-pieces to add to his club-leading goal tally in 2020-21.

West Ham vs Liverpool: Match preview
Not to be outdone by Leicester City and Everton, West Ham are putting together their own impressive 2020-21 Premier League campaign. Unlike the aforementioned blue tandem, the Hammers were undoubtedly viewed as a side on the outside looking in, with most tipping them for a bottom-half finish. But David Moyes and co. had other ideas.
Unlike those around them the likes of Leicester, Liverpool, Everton, and Chelsea, West Ham have not tried to play expansive or possession-based football. Instead, stout defending coupled with an effective counter-attacking system – and a considerable set-piece threat – has been the order of the day for the East London outfit. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best course of action.
Czech international Tomas Soucek has been one of the standout performers this season; not just for the Hammers, but in the Premier League on the whole. Similar plaudits can be levied in the directions of the highly sought-after Declan Rice, and Soucek’s international teammate Vladimir Coufal. The defensive-minded trio have helped Moyes construct a framework without the ball with which all counter-attacking sides feed off. It’s unclear if West Ham can sustain their level of performance for the remainder of the season, but they have been a breath of fresh air.
Liverpool are in-need of a front-three rebirth
It’s been a difficult period in the Premier League for Liverpool’s vaunted front-three of Mohammed Salad, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané. The attacking triumvirate had found joy in the Reds’ recent FA Cup outings, but league pastures were far more barren in recent weeks until their performance against Tottenham on Thursday night.
Both Mané and Firmino found the back of the net, while Salah remained lively. Salah bagged a brace against Manchester United in their 3-2 FA Cup loss on Sunday, with Firmino registering assists for both goals. The rekindling of an attacking flame that saw Liverpool shoot their way to Champions League and Premier League success over the past two seasons has been a long-time coming.
Before Thursday night’s result at Spurs, Liverpool were winless in five (0-3-2) while scoring just a single goal in the process during their 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion. But it was always a matter of time before the goals would flow once more.
Despite the recent heartache in front of goal, the Reds remain the league’s top goal-scorers (40) this term, and should their form in the final third continue to rebound, their assault on the top of the table should resume in earnest. The hope will be if the gap between a rampant Manchester City doesn’t become insurmountable in the meantime.
