Betting prediction: West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea
West Ham United welcomes Chelsea to the London Stadium on Saturday for this London Derby in the Premier League.
The Blues have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with 27 wins to West Ham’s 14, from their 50 encounters in the Premier League.
Although, outside of Premier League fixtures, the Hammers have the slight upper hand with 28 wins to Chelsea’s 25 dating back to when they first faced each other competitively in the old Division One back in 1923.
Recently, things are pretty even in this head-to-head. The Blues completed a league double over West Ham last season. However, the previous season it was the Hammers who took 6 points from 6 from the two matches. Chelsea took 4 points from 6 the season prior after West Ham had done so in the 2017/18 season.
West Ham vs Chelsea: Recommended bets
101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea and is available at odds of 7.5/1.
3-2 West Ham win. West Ham’s last home victory over Chelsea came back in July 2020 when the clubs returned to football after lockdown. The Hammers came from behind to win in dramatic fashion with a last-minute winner in a 3-2 match. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 41/1.
0-1 Chelsea win. Chelsea won 0-1 on their last visit to the London Stadium back in April. You can back them at 7.5/1 for the same scoreline here on Saturday.
Under 2.5 goals. West Ham vs Chelsea at the London Stadium has been a low scoring game lately, with 3 of the last 4 editions seeing just 1 goal or less scored in the match. You can back another low scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 1.9/1 for under 2.5 goals.
Romelu Lukaku Goalscorer. Lukaku (above) has just 1 goal for club and country since mid-September. A run of 1 goal in 9 games coupled with an injury has made the start to his Chelsea return a difficult one. Still, the Belgian international is the 4/1 favourite to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 1.9/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against the Hammers.
West Ham vs Chelsea: What are the betting odds?
The Irons are 4.75/1 to make it 5 home wins out of 8 in this head-to-head by taking all 3 points from Chelsea on Saturday.
Whereas, the Blues are 1.75/1 to make it 6 consecutive away wins in the Premier League this season by picking up a win at the London Stadium.
There has been just 1 statemate between these sides in the last 11 matches. Odds of 3.5/1 are available if you see West Ham and Chelsea cancelling each other out on Saturday.

West Ham vs Chelsea: Match preview
While there are so many London derbies in football, many of them don’t really hold any special relevance. They don’t particularly feel like derbies and the underdog doesn’t cause many upsets as a result.
However, West Ham vs Chelsea certainly isn’t the case. The match is known locally as the ‘District Line’ derby, referring to the London Underground line that fans would use on the tube to visit their opponent. The rivalry increased in prominence in the ‘70s and ‘80s largely due to the hooligan culture in English football at the time, with the clubs having two of the game’s most feared fanbases.
It flared up once again in the late 1990s and early 2000s when Chelsea recruited John Terry from the Hammers’ academy and then signed Frank Lampard, Glen Johnson and Joe Cole in the following years creating the tag of them being a feeder club on the part of Blues fans.
In terms of current playing squads, none of the Chelsea side have any ties to West Ham. However, the Hammers have former Chelsea academy player Declan Rice anchoring their midfield and Kurt Zouma as their star central defender, after his arrival in August for £31.5m.
Saturday will be only the second time that Moyes and Tuchel have faced each other as managers. While the 0-1 win for Chelsea may give the appearance of a close game that could have gone either way, in truth, the Pensioners battered the Irons and would have won 0-3 but for wasteful finishing from Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham.
West Ham only created 0.27 expected goals’ worth of chances in the match and their only shots on target were from 25 yards out or more. Chelsea did a great job of shutting down West Ham’s set-piece game that has seen them be a threat to many sides, most notably against Liverpool just a few weeks ago.
The problem for Chelsea will be imposing their game plan on the Hammers without Ben Chilwell and possibly Reece James in the wing-back positions. The pair have been instrumental to Chelsea’s attack this season and they laboured at the weekend in their absence, with Tuchel describing the 1-2 win against Watford as one in which his side ‘stole 3 points’.
West Ham team news vs Chelsea
Aaron Cresswell is the only other doubt for David Moyes here. He missed the 1-1 draw with Brighton due to a lower back injury and is rated as 50/50 to be involved against Chelsea. He faces a late fitness test.
Arthur Masuaku, Manuel Lanzini, and Andriy Yarmolenko (above) are the three most likely to come into the starting XI here, should Moyes look to reshuffle his pack to keep players fresh during this busy run of games.
Chelsea team news vs West Ham
Ben Chilwell (above) is ruled out with a partial tear of his ACL. Chelsea have decided to allow six weeks to see if he recovers or if he will need surgery. Marcos Alonso will continue in Chilwell’s absence at left-back.
Trevoh Chalobah was withdrawn around the hour-mark of the 1-2 win at Watford in midweek. Scans are required on his hamstring strain to determine exactly how long he will be out, but the defender is certainly unavailable for this match at least.
N’Golo Kante has missed the last 2 league games after he twisted his knee against Juventus. Unlike Chilwell, he isn’t expected to be out for long and will likely be back sometime before Christmas.
Mateo Kovacic has missed Chelsea’s last 5 league matches with a hamstring problem. Like Kante, he isn’t expected to be available this weekend and it could still be a few games before he is fit to return.
Reece James is the nearest to a return of those who missed out in midweek. He got a kick on the ankle against Man United, but was able to complete the match. Afterwards, the pain and swelling caused him to miss the trip to Watford. He should be back here, though, and if not, certainly next weekend.
