Betting prediction: Watford 1-0 Newcastle

Watford have certainly enjoyed a brighter start to 2021-22 than Newcastle in the early doors of the Premier League season, and the injury issues faced by Steve Bruce could once more come home to roost when the two sides clash at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets put in a fantastic display against Norwich last weekend, and even though Xisco’s men had a midweek Carabao Cup engagement, they really should get the better of a struggling Newcastle outfit. Individual quality through the likes of Miguel Almirón or Allan Saint-Maximin could offer an avenue for a goal, but a lack of supply given midfield absentees could scupper their efforts. A narrow Watford win could be a good bet here.

Watford vs Newcastle: Recommended bets

Watford to win to nil (11/4 odds)

Though they have yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season, there is no better time than now for Watford to secure their first of the campaign given the injury crisis that has taken hold at Newcastle. Neither side are brilliant going forward, though Watford have dominated the recent meetings between the two (3-2-1) and come into proceedings in better form.

To score anytime: Emmanuel Dennis (11/5 odds)

One of only three goal scorers under Xisco this season, Emmanuel Dennis could come up with his third goal of the season at home tomorrow against a weakened Newcastle, given his ability to score from multiple sources of creativity either during the run of play or off a set piece. Naturally, the focal point will be Ismaïla Sarr and his individual qualities, and the added attention he will undoubtedly receive could also play into Dennis’ favor.

Watford vs Newcastle: Match preview

Watford have little to change despite midweek loss

It was an unfortunate result for Watford boss Xisco when the Hornets were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in midweek in a 3-1 loss at home despite their dominant display.

Xisco’s men registered over twice the number of shots as Stoke, and keeper Adam Davies was superb in goal to help Michael O’Neill’s men reach the next round.

There was little more that Watford could have done and the loss certainly was a tough pill for the boss to swallow, but that same approach and similar energy brought to bear against Newcastle could certainly yield a more favorable result, as Steve Bruce’s men are already up against it this season.

Newcastle already have their backs to the wall in 2021-22

No wins in five attempts thus far in 2021-22 sees the Magpies already in the clutches of the relegation zone with one of the word defensive records in the Premier League.

The injury bug that constantly plagues Callum Wilson has struck again as well, as the England international is set to miss out this weekend for the third time this season, with the Magpies having to turn to Allan Saint-Maximin to find a bit of magic in the final third if Bruce’s outfit is to have any hope of securing at least a point against a Watford side they have only beaten once in their last six meetings.

After another summer of poor investment from the club hierarchy and owner Mike Ashley, it is only a matter of time before they fail to avoid the drop once again; an all-too-familiar sight for a club that is massive in the English footballing landscape.

Watford team news vs Newcastle

Watford boss Xisco is hopeful of welcoming back both Kiko Femenía and João Pedro to the match day squad after the pair returned to full training, while Femenía has every chance of taking up his place in the starting XI should he be included.

Ben Foster looks set to remain in goal after an excellent performance against Norwich last weekend, whilst considering the fitness concerns around Austrian international Daniel Bachmann.

Newcastle team news vs Watford

Newcastle? Injuries? Say it isn’t so for Magpies boss Steve Bruce as his outfit visit Vicarage Road with no fewer than five first-team options sure to miss out through fitness concerns.

Jonjo Shelvey, Paul Dummett, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock, and Jamaal Lascelles will all be unavailable for Bruce to call upon, while Karl Darlow is expected to keep his place in goal despite Martin Dúbravka finally returning to training.
