Watford vs Brighton betting tips: Premier League preview and predictions

Watford vs Brighton prediction: Watford 0-1 Brighton

The Premier League is back!

Vicaridge Road is where it all kicks off for Watford and Brighton.

These two were separated by a single place in the table last season so expect this one to be an even contest too.

Watford vs Brighton: Who will win?

This is a hard game to call and that is reflected by the odds.

Watford are 5/4 to start their campaign with a home win.

Brighton, who only won two away games last season, are 23/10 to get their season off to the perfect start.

When these two met at Vicarage Road last season it finished in a 0-0 draw. Another draw is 9/4 with a repeat scoreline priced at 15/2.

Under 2.5 goals is 8/13 in what promises to be a tight game.

Troy Deeney

Andre Gray and Troy Deeney are both 6/1 to score first and are 9/4 to score anytime.

Amazingly, Abdoulaye Doucouré was Watford’s top scorer last season with just 7 goals. He is 17/2 to be first goalscorer and 3/1 to score anytime.

Brighton’s Pascal Groß scored one of his 6 league goals last season against Watford when they met on the south cost. The German is 13/2 score first and 9/4 to score anytime.

Watford vs Brighton: Match preview

This match kicks off Watford’s fourth season in a row in the Premier League, their longest stay in the top flight since 1982-88.

However, this is the first of those 4 in which they kick off the season with the same manager as they finished the last.

Javi Gracia only took over from Marco Silva in January but a sequence of poor results put his future in doubt.

Nevertheless, he’s still in charge and will hope to push The Hornets up the table.

They’ve ended up 13th, 17th and 14th in their last 3 seasons so will they get their first top half finish since 1987?

As for Brighton, last season was party season for The Seagulls.

It was their first top flight campaign since 1983 and they relished every minute of it.

They lost their first two games, which left them in the relegation zone, but from that point on never found themselves in any danger of the drop.

A famous 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final week of the season was enough to clinch survival with 2 games to spare.

29 of their 40 points were won at the AMEX and they’ll need to make it a fortress if they’re to stay up again.

Their next two games are against Manchester United and Liverpool so a win in Watford might be their best chance to get an early victory on the board.

Watford team news vs Brighton

Watford, as ever have been busy in the transfer window.

Ben Foster has rejoined the club from West Brom and looks set to be the new first choice goalkeeper. Last season neither Heurelho Gomes nor Orestis Karnezis could hold down the number 1 shirt so having a regular man between the sticks could benefit them defensively.

They also have two new full backs. Marc Navarro (from Espanyol) and Adam Masina (from Bologna) who could both make their debuts.

Sweden international Ken Sema could also make his first Watford appearance after joining from  Östersunds FK.

A fans favourite from last season has also joined on a permanent basis. Gerard Deulofeu has signed for over £11 million from Barcelona and will hope to reproduce some of last seasons exhilarating form.

The team that Javi Gracia is going to pick is difficult to predict.

Sebastian Prödl and Abdoulaye Doucouré were two of their star men last season but numerous other places are up for grabs. He has a big squad to choose from and it could be difficult to keep everyone satisfied.

Chris Hughton

Brighton team news vs Watford

Brighton too have been very active in the transfer market.

A big question still remains. Who will be their first choice goalkeeper?

Matt Ryan started 35 times in the league last season but the arrivals of both Jason Steele (from Sunderland) and David Button (from Fulham) makes that position very competitive. The fact that Ryan started their last 2 friendly games leads me to think he’ll start at Vicarage Road.

There are new signings in other positions who do look set to start though.

Bernardo, who joined from RB Leipzig and Nigerian international Leon Balogun are both set to debut in defence.

Former Lille man Yves Bissouma should come into midfield and Florin Andone, who’s joined from Deportivo La Coruña, could get the nod up front.

However, there is one new player that Brighton fans are more excited to see than any other. Iranian international winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh. Their record signing scored 22 goals for AZ Alkmaar last season and could be the caliber of player they need to fire them up the table.
