Both teams to score. Brighton have scored in each of their last seven Premier League matches, while Spurs have only managed to keep two clean sheets in 12 matches this season.

Harry Kane to score. Kane has already scored 10 goals for Spurs this season. Five of those have come in his last two appearances at the London Stadium. Kane also has four goals in six appearances against the Seagulls.

Tottenham vs Brighton: Match preview

Tottenham host Brighton at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs’ 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end on Thursday night as they were beaten 1-0 by Antwerp in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho made a number of changes for the match and slated his side after the defeat. “Before matches, you always ask me. ‘Why this player is not playing?’ ‘Why this player is not playing?’ ‘Why this player is not selected?’ Maybe now for a few weeks you don’t ask me that because you have the answer”, he said. Dele Alli’s name wasn’t explicitly mentioned in Jose’s rant, but it is clear that much of the criticism was aimed at him.

On Monday, Spurs were somewhat fortunate to leave Turf Moor with all three points, requiring a second-half goal from Heung-Min Son to claim a very narrow win. The result means Spurs begin the weekend fifth in the table on 11 points, two off of first place.
Also on Monday night, Brighton drew 1-1 for the second consecutive match. An own goal from Jake Livermore gave Graham Potter’s side the lead although they weren’t able to hold on to it. One win in six leaves Brighton in 16th on five points, four above the relegation zone.
Although their standing in the table may suggest otherwise, Brighton are actually on a fairly decent away run. The Seagulls have only lost one of their last 10 Premier League matches away from home – a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Everton earlier in October.
Spurs and Brighton have met six times previously in the Premier League, with Spurs winning four of those and losing one. Last season’s corresponding fixture, played in December 2019, finished 2-1 in Spurs’ favour. Adam Webster gave the visitors a half-time lead but Spurs turned things around in the second half through Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Tottenham team news vs Brighton

Spurs made a number of changes to their starting eleven in midweek. Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg came on as second-half substitutes in Antwerp, while Matt Doherty, Moussa Sissoko, and Toby Alderweireld were unused substitutes.

None of Spurs’ fringe players covered themselves in glory on Thursday, so Mourinho is expected to field a similar side to the one which beat Burnley last weekend, although Sergio Reguilon could come in for Ben Davies at left-back.

Having only returned from injury last weekend, Eric Dier was given the night off on Thursday and should return to the starting eleven.

Tanguy Ndombele missed Thursday’s defeat due to muscle fatigue but Mourinho has confirmed that the midfielder is “ready to play” on Sunday.

Gareth Bale is in contention to make his first Premier League start since re-joining the club in September.

Japhet Tanganga is Spurs’ only injured player. He misses out with a hamstring problem

Brighton team news vs Tottenham

Despite declaring that “everybody is fit” in his pre-match press conference, Graham Potter will have a similar group available to him as “the one we’ve had in recent weeks”.

Lewis Dunk will serve the second of a three-match ban, which could see Joel Veltman continue in the middle of a three-man defence. Ben White has been deployed in defensive midfield in recent weeks and could continue there alongside Yves Bissouma.

Danny Welbeck was an unused substitute last weekend and is in contention to make his first appearance for the club.

Davy Propper has returned to training following an injury but only has an “outside chance” of making Brighton’s matchday squad.

Sunday’s game will come too soon for Alireza Jahanbakhsh who has been sidelined for the last month with a hamstring injury.

Florian Andone remains sidelined while Christian Walton and Jose Izquierdo are major doubts.
