Southampton vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League preview & prediction

Southampton vs Chelsea 101 Great Goals prediction: Southampton 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea may have only played on Thursday but they will likely have enough firepower to breeze past a Southampton side struggling in the Premier League.

The Saints have impressed in the Carabao Cup but have not seen the same level of performances in the league.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are impressing in all of the Europa League, Carabao Cup and the Premier League.

Southampton vs Chelsea: Who will win?

Chelsea go into this game as heavy favourites as expected.

Maurizio Sarri’s men are priced at 8/13 to win the game within 90 minutes.

Southampton, despite their win over Everton in the Carabao Cup, are heavy outsiders at 5/1.

That will come as no shock due to both the Saints’ poor performances in the Premier League this season and how well Chelsea have been playing.

Though, if you are feeling ambitious with Chelsea set to rest players after their Europa League tie with Vidi, 5/1 is a pretty attractive price.

Chelsea to win the game 2-0 is reasonably priced at 7/1.

Looking at the goal scorers market, Eden Hazard is the favourite to score first.

His odds of 15/4 put him on top of the list with Alvaro Morata, who scored on Thursday evening, priced at 5/1.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud are also priced at 5/1, with the former potentially featuring after Willian and Pedro started in the Europa League.

If you are feeling lucky and fancy a Southampton player to score first, Charlie Austin and Danny Ings are priced at 17/2 to score first.

Southampton vs Chelsea match preview

It’s not been a great start to the Premier League season for Mark Hughes and Southampton.

They have only won one game so far this season and lost four, drawing the others.

In the first game of the season they were unable to beat a Burnley side coming off the back of a Europa League tie.

The next game saw them lose to Everton despite a Danny Ings goal giving them hope late on.

A clash with Leicester followed in which they lost 2-1 with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg also being sent off.

Their first and only win of the season came next against Crystal Palace.

Ings and Højbjerg secured the points in what looked to be a potential turning point.

However, that was not the case.

A draw with Brighton was then followed up by losses to Liverpool and Wolves.

It is in the Carabao Cup in which Mark Hughes’ side has impressed most.

They beat Brighton in the second round of the competition before seeing off Everton on Tuesday evening.

The Saints looked strong at Goodison Park and they could have easily won that game comfortably if it was not for several missed chances.

If Southampton are to get anything out of the game against Chelsea, they must play with the intensity and desire they did against Everton.

Can Chelsea contend with packed fixture list?

Maurizio Sarri has started his Chelsea career in impressive fashion.

The Blues are quietly going about their business in all competitions and are real contenders in all of them.

They have only dropped points in two Premier League games this season with West Ham and Liverpool.

They have secured wins against all of Huddersfield, Arsenal, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Cardiff.

Maurizio’s men have also impressed in other competitions too.

It’s been a busy few weeks for Chelsea in both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League but they’ve been equal to it.

Chelsea Alvaro Morata

They saw off Liverpool in a thrilling clash at Anfield, Eden Hazard coming on to make the difference in the second half.

Despite a shaky performance against Hungarian side Vidi in the Europa League, Alvaro Morata sealed all three points with a goal in the second half.

That has seen them pick up maximum points from their European games so far.

Their results this season cannot be understated and the way they have gone about getting those results has also been phenomenal.

Chelsea have well and truly implemented ‘Sarri-ball’ at Stamford Bridge and are playing some brilliant stuff.

Summer signing Jorginho has been impressive and Eden Hazard has a new lease of life.

The Belgian has already scored 6 goals in the Premier League and will be looking for more this weekend.

After a rest in midweek, Hazard will be fresh and if Southampton will need to keep him quiet if they are to leave Stamford Bridge with a decent result.

Southampton team news vs Chelsea

There are unlikely to be many changes from Southampton this weekend.

They played Everton on Tuesday evening and after they impressed, there will likely not be a wave of players changed.

Alex McCarthy will come back into the squad while Jannik Vestergaard and Wesley Hoedt will likely return to the defence.

Chelsea team news vs Southampton

There will no doubt be some big surprises for Chelsea, however.

Following the game with Vidi on Thursday, Sarri suggested changes will be made.

Eden Hazard did not start the game so should be given the go-ahead this weekend.

Olivier Giroud will likely come back into the squad despite Alvaro Morata’s goal.

While Willian was made to play the full game on Thursday, Pedro was withdrawn early and will likely make up the attack.
