Southampton vs Arsenal: Match details
Match: Southampton vs Arsenal
Competition: Premier League
Date: January 26, 2021
Kick-off time: 8:15 pm, January 26, 2021 (UK time)
Stadium: St. Mary’s Stadium
Betting prediction: Southampton 1-2 Arsenal
After a strong Southampton-side stole a march on Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round, Mikel Arteta comes into their second trip to St. Mary’s in less than a week on the back of a few questions.
Arteta rotated his matchday XI against Ralph Hasenhüttl’s troops at the weekend, and the Gunners boss is expected to field a near-full strength XI in midweek.
With Saints being bitten by the injury bug, tired legs from their FA Cup win could surface against an Arsenal side out for revenge.
Southampton vs Arsenal: Recommended bets
– Alexandre Lacazette to score anytime
With Eddie Nketiah getting the start against Southampton during the FA cup fixture, Alexandre Lacazette is near-certain to be back in Mikel Arteta’s match day XI. His budding collective partnerships with Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka has been a breath of fresh air for the Gunners. He’s Arsenal’s leading goal-scorer in the Premier League this season (7), so it’s a decent bet he will have a few chances to add to his overall tally on Tuesday.
– Halftime/Full-Time: Southampton – Arsenal
In what could easily be a tale of two halves on Tuesday night, Southampton’s struggle to see-out results in the second-half could well go hand-in-hand with Arsenal’s penchant for coming out strong after the half-time team talk. Of Arsenal’s tens goals in their last six outings, only two have come in the first-half.

Southampton vs Arsenal: Match preview
It may have had to come from an own-goal, but Southampton were not complaining when they knocked-out current holders Arsenal at the weekend in their FA-Cup fourth round tie.
Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, who has guided the south-coast outfit to a top-half place (10th) at the half-way mark of the Premier League season, one place above their midweek adversaries. Saints are currently ravaged with injuries, however, and their strongest possible XI at the weekend is likely to be the same when the Gunners return with a point to prove. Danny Ings’ goal threat and crucial all-round play will remain absolutely key for the St. Mary’s side.
They have every chance to get something from the match again as well. In their previous six meetings, Saints’ record stands at 2-2-2 against Arsenal, while their home form in the Premier League this term is good for fourth-best in the English top flight.
They have tired legs, but they’re still capable of a good performance.
Arsenal may be without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the kids are alright
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could miss a chance to increase his goal tally on the season due to an undisclosed issue. If unavailable, it is assumed that Brazilian youth prodigy Gabriel Martinelli will be deployed again on the left-flank.
But more importantly, the return to the match-day XI of the budding trip of Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith Rowe, and Bukayo Saka gives Arsenal supporters something to be cheerful about.
The continued level of play shown by Saka has been nothing short of fantastic since last season, while the emergence of Smith Rowe as a genuine long-term successor of the keys to the creative kingdom in London N5 has led to many in the fanbase lauding the clubs Hale End academy once again.
Together with Lacazette, the attacking trip have quickly gelled on the pitch, while spearheading many of Arsenal’s recent credible results. Their inclusion in the match day XI should be a massive boost to a Gunners-side that failed to crack open Saints’ back four at the weekend.
Southampton team news vs Arsenal
Danny Ings’ return to the match day XI during the weekend FA Cup fixture was a welcomed addition for Hasenhüttl. He’s expected to retain his place.
Saints’ Austrian manager is still in the midst of coping with an injury-ravaged squad. Jannik Vestergaard, Kyle Walker-Peters, Michael Obafemi, Moussa Djenepo, Will Smallbone, Nathan Redmond, Nathan Tella, and Mohamed Salisu are all unavailable for the midweek joust.
Ryan Bertrand will miss proceedings due to red card suspension.
Oriol Romeu is likely to not be risked as he completes his return to the squad.
Arsenal team news vs Southampton
Pablo Mari is the only squad member guaranteed to be unavailable for selection.
Both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Dani Ceballos could make the match day squad come Tuesday but as of now remain doubts.
