Manchester City have put last month’s disastrous 5-2 defeat to Leicester behind them and have since gone on a six-match unbeaten run.

Sheffield United are still looking for their first win of the season. The Blades have only scored one Premier League goal from open play all season.

There may be some tired legs in Man City’s side following their away trip in midweek, but all signs point towards a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City: Match preview

Sheffield United host Manchester City at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Sheffield United lost 2-1 at champions Liverpool last weekend. The Blades took a surprise lead when Sander Berge converted a controversially awarded penalty. Liverpool were back on level terms before half-time and found a winner in the second half.

Chris Wilder head into the weekend 19th in the table on one point from six matches played, and a goal difference of -6.
Sheffield United have lost eight of their last nine Premier League matches, a run stretching back to the end of last season. Still, there were some encouraging moments to take from the Anfield defeat.
By their own high standards, Manchester City have not made the best start to the season. They find themselves 13th in the table on 8 points, although a win would almost certainly move them into the top eight. Man City do have a game in hand over most of the sides around them.

City were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham last weekend, requiring an equaliser from substitute Phil Foden to come away from London with a point. They were much improved in their midweek Champions League game, beating Marseille 3-0 away from home. Ferran Torres, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling were all on the scoresheet.

Sheffield United have never managed to take a point against Man City in eight Premier League attempts. Sergio Aguero scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for City in last season’s corresponding fixture in January.

Sheffield United team news vs Manchester City

Max Lowe was forced off with a head injury on his first start for the club a fortnight ago. Lowe missed out against Liverpool due to the Premier League’s protocols on head injuries but he’ll be back in the squad to face Man City.

Chris Wilder confirmed in his press conference that John Lundstram has rejected a new contract offer from the club. Lundstram’s lack of a long-term commitment to the club could see his playing minutes reduced. Oliver Norwood is a potential midfield replacement.

Rhian Brewster did not have the greatest of games on his Anfield comeback and could be replaced in the starting eleven by David McGoldrick. Oliver Burke is an attacking option off the bench.

The Blades are set to line up with their usual five-man defence.

John Fleck remains sidelined with a back injury, while Lys Mousset is still a month or so away from a return.

Jack O’Connell will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Manchester City team news vs Sheffield United

Manchester City are once again set to be without a recognised striker, although Raheem Sterling has proved himself more than capable playing as Man City’s focal point.

Gabriel Jesus has a slight chance of featuring on the bench, but Sergio Aguero is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva came off the bench in midweek and will be looking to start at the weekend.

Nathan Ake is an injury doubt, so one of Ruben Dias, John Stones, or Eric Garcia should partner Aymeric Laporte in defence.

Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are also ruled out.
