The Blades welcomes Leeds United to Bramall Lane in Sheffield on Sunday for this Premier League match.

There have been just 4 meetings between these two sides in the Premier League. Their 4 previous matches have seen 1 draw, Sheffield United winning 1 and Leeds United winning 2.

This will be the first match between them in the English top-flight since the 1993/94 season. Sheffield United were relegated at the end of that season to the Championship.

Of course, the sides have met numerous times throughout the years in the old First Division, in the Championship and in domestic cup competitions.

The Peacocks also have the upper hand in the overall head-to-head, with 18 wins to Sheffield United’s 12, from their 37 encounters in all competitions.

The Blades won on the last time they faced each other in the Championship at Elland Road. They are 17/10 to finally get some points on the board for the 2020/21 campaign with a win here.

Only 7 of the 37 matches between these clubs have ended in a tie. Odds of 23/10 are available if you see Sheffield Utd and Leeds cancelling each other out on Sunday.

Leeds won on their last visit to Bramall Lane in the Championship. They are 13/8 to follow up their victory over Fulham with another victory here.

Sheffield United FC vs Leeds United: Recommended bets

101 Great Goals’ prediction of Sheffield Utd. 2 – 2 Leeds is available at odds of 14/1.

Sheffield Utd.’s last home victory over Leeds came back in 2018 by a scoreline of 2-1. A repeat of this score on Sunday is available at odds of 10/1.

Leeds’ won the last match at Bramall Lane back in 2018. You can back them at 17/2 for the same scoreline here on Sunday.

Sheffield Utd. vs Leeds in the Premier League was historically a high scoring game with all four of their Premier League matches seeing over 2.5 goals. You can back another high scoring game here on Sunday with odds of evens for over 2.5 goals.

The Blades are yet to score in the Premier League this season. Their joint top-scorer, Oliver McBurnie, was benched for last weekend’s trip to Villa. He is expected to be restored to the starting XI on Sunday. The Scotland international is 11/2 to score the game’s opener on Sunday. Or 15/8 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Leeds United.

In contrast, Leeds are having no problem scoring in their first season back in the Premier League. Patrick Bamford already has 2 in 2 games. The 26-year-old striker is the favourites of those in white to score against Sheffield United at the weekend at 2/1. Or 6/1 for Bamford to do so as the game’s first scorer.

Sheffield United FC vs Leeds United: Match preview

Matches between them in the Championship were always fiercely contested, often cagey, and very close affairs. Only 1 of the last 8 matches was won by a margin greater than 1 goal; a 2-0 win for Sheffield United back in 2011.

They were also generally low-scoring games, with 6 of the 8 matches having under 2.5 goals. The last two times they met, both ended in 0-1 away wins.

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United were the cagiest side in the Premier League last season. Their matches averaged just 2.05 goals per game; the lowest in the Premier League. This has continued this season, as their games have averaged just 1.5 goals. Unfortunately for Sheffield United, all 3 of the goals in their games have been scored against them.

In contrast, those who have never watched a Marcelo Bielsa side must be in love right now. They have been by far the most exciting side to watch in the Premier League so far this season. Both their opening two games have ended 4-3, winning one and losing one. Their average of 7 goals per game blows the 3.6 of Manchester City last season out of the water.

Top-level sport is often about imposing your will on the opponent. Whether it’s boxing, mixed martial arts, squash, rugby or any other team sport. Football is no different.

If Wilder can turn Sunday’s match into a tight game decided by one goal, he will fancy his chances of coming out on top. However, if we see Bielsaball resulting in an open game where the team who scores the most will win, the game will likely get away from Sheffield United.

Sheffield United FC team news vs Leeds United

John Egan is suspended following his red card at Villa last weekend. Ethan Ampadu is expected to replace him in the starting XI.

Jack Rodwell is available for selection again. He was in self-isolation for the past couple of weeks due to Coronavirus. He could be on the bench to provide some depth in defence and midfield.

Lys Mousset hasn’t featured yet for Sheffield United this season due to a whack to the top of the toe. He wasn’t expected to be out long with the injury but has subsequently required surgery.

“He’s out and had a minor operation which is disappointing. It’s quite a rare injury, a ligament under his toe. He’s in a boot at the moment.”
– Chris Wilder, Sheffield United manager

Understudy goalkeeper, Simon Moore, has been absent with a broken finger. He is unlikely to be fit for this one but should be back after the next international break.

Leeds United team news vs Sheffield United FC

Gaetano Berardi remains ruled out for Leeds. He suffered an ACL injury back in July and isn’t expected to feature again for Leeds this season.

Adam Forshaw has been out with a pelvic injury for nearly a year now. Despite returning to full training, he hasn’t played any footballed for a long time. Therefore, he will likely see reserve action to find match sharpness before playing in the Premier League.

Pablo Hernandez hasn’t featured for Leeds since their opening day defeat at Anfield. He had a tight groin and likely won’t play for Leeds again until after the international break.
