Betting prediction: Norwich 1-2 Watford

Norwich have to travel back in time to 2016 for the last time they took three points from Watford, who have won four consecutive meetings between the sides, and five of the last six. Given the lay of the land in the Premier League at current, and how poorly Daniel Farke’s troops have opened the campaign, there is little evidence to suggest that a completely favorable result will be found at Carrow Road. Watford are on a slide of their own, but seem just threatening enough to continue their dominance between the clubs though a close result.

Norwich vs Watford: Match preview

The only way is up for Norwich

Four matches, four losses, and the early resignation that Norwich are up against it once again in the Premier League after a very active summer transfer window that has yet to net a single point for Daniel Farke’s Canaries.

The 1-0 loss against Arsenal last weekend was not terrible from all angles, but it was yet another defeat despite some of the positives on offer. With the joint second-worst defensive record in the division at current, and just one goal on the board, Farke needs to perpetrate improvement in rapid order if Norwich are to avoid being a shoe-in for relegation before the Christmas period.

A massive chance comes in their clash with Watford, whom they have lost five of their last six meetings with. Club fan groups have urged for the maximum amount of support for the team at the weekend, in what will hopefully be the first point haul of the new campaign. But should the Canaries taste defeat yet again, there is little to be hopeful for. Thankfully, things can only get better, but whether they will or not this weekend remains to be seen.

Watford begin to slip away after opening weekend triumph

An opening day 3-2 win against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa was just what the doctor ordered for Watford boss Xisco as the Hornets looked to set themselves up for a post-promotion campaign that could offer them foundations to settle in the top flight of English football, but that result now seems a distant memory, after the club crashed to three successive losses in the league while dropping down to 15th.

The hope, however, will be to tap into their usual dominance over Norwich (winning 5 of their last-6 meetings) and to put to bed a worrying drop in altitude before it turns into a full-on tail spin.

More may have been expected from Watford after a busy yet questionable summer transfer window that saw Xisco bring in ten fresh faces to Vicarage Road. Thankfully, two winnable fixtures are on the horizon, as the Hornets clash with Newcastle in the weekend following their date with Norwich, with a Carabao Cup meeting with Stoke City sandwiched between. It could be just the tonic to get themselves back into the points.

Norwich team news vs Watford

Daniel Farke will look to finally get Norwich up and running in the league this season after the Canaries dropped all four fixtures to open hostilities, and will have to take on fellow promoted outfit Watford with a few selection headaches on the back of trying to find the right tactical formula to get the Canaries off the launching pad.

Christoph Zimmermann, Sam Byram, and Dimitris Giannoulis are all unavailable through injury while Josh Sargent, Przemyslaw Placheta, and Bali Mumba face late assessments and could also miss out on selection.

Watford team news vs Norwich

Three losses on the trot after an opening weekend win is a run that Watford boss Xisco will look to arrest at Carrow Road, with the bulk of his squad available apart from a handful of concerns.

Kiko Femenía looks set to miss out through injury while João Pedro will be unavailable despite returning to training. Questions also surround Dan Gosling, but Ben Foster should make his way back into the matchday squad.
