Betting prediction: Norwich 0-3 Arsenal

Arsenal ran out 1-0 winners against Norwich back in September to net their first win of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign after starting the season 0-0-3, and the Gunners should feel confident of repeating the overall result by a more comfortable scoreline after finding form of late in conjunction with the selection crisis at Norwich who still sit bottom of the league while losing their last three. Even if Mikel Arteta fields a secondary XI with Wolves and Manchester City in mind in the coming days, the side should still be enough to overcome Dean Smith’s ravaged squad.

Norwich vs Arsenal: Recommended bets

To Score Anytime: Emile Smith Rowe (11/5 odds)

Currently sitting in the top-five in the Premier League goalscoring charts with 7-goals to his name, Emile Smith Rowe is one of the leading candidates to find the back of the net against Norwich should Mikel Arteta rotate his matchday XI and not field the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Ødegaard, or Bukayo Saka.

Correct Score: Norwich 0-3 Arsenal (9/1 odds)

It is a bit of a gamble to hedge a bet on a 3-0 scoreline in Arsenal’s favor, but it is difficult to see a different overall result than a Gunners win against a Norwich outfit that seems destined to once again drop down to the Championship. With Arsenal finding results of late on the back of Mikel Arteta’s young guns, 9/1 odds make this an enticing scoreline to consider.

Norwich vs Arsenal: Match preview

What to say about Norwich at this point. It is hard to necessarily criticize the Canaries in how they went about their summer transfer business given some of the talents they brought to Carrow Road, but through a combination of poor luck with injures, another Covid breakout, and poor management under former boss Daniel Farke, Norwich are now the odds-on favorite to finish dead last in the Premier League this season.

After a mini-run of results (1-2-0) with a new boost provided by Dean Smith, Norwich is right back where they left off and in the midst of a three-match unbeaten run, but despite that, are mathematically right in the thick of it with a chance to climb out of the drop zone should they earn a shock win against Arsenal on Boxing Day. But with just 8-goals to their name across 17-fixtures this season (less than one goal/match), confidence will be hard to come by.

As for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s young guns, the headache of how does the Spanish headmaster finds room for all of his glittering starlets in his preferred XI is – for once – a headache worth having.

The quarter of youngsters in the forward line comprised of Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli have all been in fine form of late, but may not all be able to fit in the same team while keeping the squad cohesive in all areas of play. ESR is the club’s leading goalscorer in the league this season, but none of the four mentioned are capable of truly operating as a center forward, which leaves just three spots available. How Arteta intends to choose who features both on Boxing Day and moving forward, nobody knows, but the fact that the future seems very, very bright at the Emirates has Arsenal fans confident.

Norwich team news vs Arsenal

For Norwich boss Dean Smith the question coming into Boxing Day is who is fit for service rather than who is not as the Canaries deal with a massive squad crisis during the difficult festive period.

The club is potentially without up to ten members of the squad; Mathias Normann, Milot Rashica, Christoph Zimmermann, Grant Hanley, and Andrew Omobamidele are all absent through injury while Lukas Rupp, Christos Tzolis, Josh Sargent, and Pierre Lees-Melou are recovering from Covid-19 but it is unclear who – if any – will be available in time. Ozan Kabak is due to be assessed but could feature.

Arsenal team news vs Norwich

Mikel Arteta could name a similar XI that ran out 5-1 winners against Sunderland in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup with their fixture against Wolves coming 48-hours after Boxing Day, and a date with Manchester City just three days later.

The Arsenal boss will hope to have Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sambi Lokonga available and also awaits word on Takehiro Tomiyasu, but will be without Pablo Mari, Calum Chambers, Sead Kolašinac, and – unless something changes – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well.
