Newcastle vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Newcastle vs Watford prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Watford

Despite a number of defensive absentees, Watford should have more than enough in their locker to see past a hapless Newcastle side and record a third straight victory.

The pressure is mounting on Rafa Benitez but the Spaniard seems to be out of ideas at St James’ Park.

Newcastle vs Watford: Who will win?

Watford are well priced at 7/4 while Newcastle are 31/20 to earn their first win of the campaign. The draw can be backed at 11/5.

With Troy Deeney out, Newcastle’s attention will turn to winger Roberto Pereyra is 8/1 to open the scoring and 3/1 to score anytime.

Newcastle vs Watford Premier League match preview

Struggling Newcastle United host Watford at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Watford are proving to be one of the league’s most exciting sides this season. Javi Gracia’s men lie 7th in the table following last weekend’s 3-0 home win over Huddersfield Town.

Roberto Pereyra, Gerard Deulofeu and Isaac Success all scored in the Hornets’ sixth win of the campaign.

Watford have won two and drawn one of their four away matches this season. Their only defeat on the road came away to Arsenal.

Newcastle’s worst start ever

In stark contrast, Newcastle begin the weekend inside the relegation zone.

Newcastle’s three-match losing run came to an end last Saturday as they picked up their third point of the season. Rafa Benitez’s side drew 0-0 away at Southampton.

Newcastle have lost all five matches played at St James’ Park this season, scoring just three goals. Watford’s Ben Foster will be confident of keeping a third consecutive clean sheet on Saturday.

Unless Newcastle’s form – particularly at home – improves dramatically, the club will almost certainly be relegated this season.

Watford did the double over Newcastle last season. Will Hughes and Andre Gray both scored in Watford’s 3-0 win at St James’ Park in November 2017. The Hornets also won their home fixture 2-1 in May.

Saturday’s match will be the ninth Premier League meeting between these two sides. Watford have won 4 to Newcastle’s 2.

If Newcastle fail to win on Saturday it will be the first time in their history that they begin a top-flight campaign without winning any of their opening 11 fixtures.

Newcastle team news vs Watford

Rafa Benitez does not have too many cards to play.

Salomon Rondon comes back into contention after appearing off the bench last weekend, although Yoshinori Muto is expected to lead the line with Ayoze Perez behind him.

Federico Fernandez will partner Jamaal Lascelles at the back. The Newcastle captain signed a six-year contract extension on Thursday.

Florian Lejeune and Jamie Sterry are Newcastle’s only injury concerns.

Watford team news vs Newcastle

Troy Deeney looks set to miss out for a third straight game, meaning Gerard Deulofeu will likely play in the false nine position, with Isaac Success supporting him. Andre Gray provides an alternate attacking option for Gracia.

Craig Cathcart picked up a knock against the Terriers but is expected to be fine for Saturday. Sebastian Prodl and Tom Cleverley are sidelined.

Former Newcastle full-back Daryl Janmaat misses out with a knee injury, so Kiko Femenia will start in his place. Adam Masina could get the nod again ahead of Jose Holebas on the left side.

Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah is back in contention after a knee problem.
