Betting prediction: Newcastle United 1 – 2 Leicester City
The Magpies welcome Leicester City to St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne on Sunday for this Premier League match.
These sides share quite an even record in the Premier League. Their 26 meetings have seen 11 Newcastle wins, 10 Leicester wins and 5 draws.
However, since the start of 2015, matches have been largely dominated by Leicester. Newcastle have lost 9 of the last 11 matches between these sides, in all competitions.
This includes last season as The Foxes completed a league double over Newcastle.

Newcastle United vs Leicester City: Recommended bets
Newcastle United’s last home victory over Leicester City came back in 2014 by a scoreline of 1-0. The win was courtesy of a Gabriel Obertan goal 20 minutes from time. A repeat of this score on Sunday is available at odds of 14/1.
Leicester City won 0-3 on their last visit to St James’ Park. You can back them at 14/1 for the same scoreline here on Sunday.
Both matches between these sides last season saw over 2.5 goals scored. Unfortunately for Newcastle United, all 8 goals were scored by Leicester. You can back another high scoring game here on Sunday with odds of 4/5 on for over 2.5 goals.
Jamie Vardy (below) has 11 goals in 10 away matches this season for the Foxes, in all competitions. He also scored twice against the Magpies last season at the King Power Stadium. The former England international is the 13/5 favourite to score the game’s opener on Sunday. Or you can back Vardy at 8/11 on to bag a goal at any time during the game against Newcastle.

Newcastle United vs Leicester City: Match preview
Leicester seem to have Newcastle’s number in the Premier League in recent times. They have won 9 of the last 11 matches between them. Even the two defeats were by a narrow 1-goal margin.
Ayoze Perez clearly left an impression in those defeats, being involved in every goal for Newcastle and scoring what proved to be the winner on each occasion. This no doubt stuck in the mind of Leicester when they bought him in the summer of 2019.
Jamie Vardy loves playing against Newcastle
However, it is Jamie Vardy that often steals the headlines in the matches between these sides. No player since the 1960s has more goals than Vardy’s 5 in this fixture. Newcastle legends Peter Beardsley and Alan Shearer come as close as anybody, with 4.
Two of Vardy’s 5 goals were the winning goals in matches against the Geordies. He also created Shinji Okazaki’s winning goal in their 1-0 win in March 2016.
If last season is anything to go by, it looks like Brendan Rodgers has Steve Bruce’s number also. Rodgers’ Leicester stuck 8 past Newcastle without reply last season. Their 5-0 win at the King Power Stadium was the biggest win for either side in history in this head-to-head.
You also need to go back to the 1-5 win here in 1965 to find a bigger winning margin in an away match than their 0-3 win at St James’ Park last season.
Leicester accounted for 14% of the goals conceded by Newcastle in the Premier League last season. The Magpies are also conceding goals at a higher rate than they were last season.
Although, the 0-0 draw against Liverpool last time out will give them some confidence that we won’t see another mauling by Foxes at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Newcastle United team news vs Leicester City
Isaac Hayden is suspended for the visit of Leicester. He has accumulated 5 yellow cards in the Premier League this season and now will serve a one-match suspension.
Martin Dubravka was in the matchday squad against Liverpool for the first time this season. He had missed the previous 15 matches due to a heel injury. Given Karl Darlow’s man of the match performance against the league-leaders, he could have a fight on his hands to win back the #1 shirt.
Ryan Fraser has had a rough start to life at Newcastle, starting only 2 Premier League matches in a season interrupted by injury. He has missed out on the last 2 squads with a pelvic injury but could be fit for their FA Cup tie against Arsenal next weekend.
Allan Saint-Maximin is also ‘weeks away’ from a return to action after a battle with COVID-19.
However, there is better news on Jamaal Lascelles. The Geordies’ captain has been out since November but is making good progress and is expected to be involved against Arsenal.
Paul Dummett has had a difficult season with injuries. He has started only one match and has missed the last two due to illness. However, he is available for selection once again here. Although, he is likely behind both Jamal Lewis and Matt Ritchie in the pecking order.

Leicester City team news vs Newcastle United
Ricardo Pereira hasn’t played for Leicester since March 2020. He is battling back to fitness and is expected to return at some point this month for the Foxes.
Wesley Fofana missed the trip to Selhurst Park with a knee injury.
However, Caglar Söyüncü (above) was in the matchday squad against Crystal Palace for the first time since the start of October. He had missed the previous 11 matches with a tear to the abductor muscle. Due to Fofana’s ongoing problem with his knee, he is expected to start against Newcastle.
Cengiz Under is also expected to miss out for the trip to Newcastle. The 23-year-old winger has only managed one start since signing for the club in the summer. He is currently out with a slight hamstring problem.
James Maddison scored on his last visit to St James’ Park. He missed the Foxes’ last match due to a knee problem but should be okay for the weekend.
