Perhaps Manchester United should dispatch a measure of thanks to Watford; their 4-1 defeat against the Hornets was the final straw before the club parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjær, and though things are not perfect under Ralf Rangnick, they certainly are in a better place. United have posted an 8-5-1 record after that fateful night at Vicarage Road, which is in stark contrast to the 5-2-5 record they began the season with under the former Norwegian international. They now sit in fourth and in current possession of the last crucial Champions League spot even though Arsenal and West Ham continue to breathe down their neck. The emergence of Jadon Sancho of late gives Ralf Rangnick another valuable weapon in his attacking arsenal to add to joint-goalscorers Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes as well as youngster Anthony Elanga. Could things be coming together for United finally as they look to extend their 7-match undefeated run of late?
Watford will certainly hope for a Red Devils hiccup despite their recent run of form on the domestic front, and though the Hornets found a criticial three-points when they dispatched Aston Villa 1-0 at Villa Park, they were quickly brought back down to earth by Patrick Vieira's Crystal Palace in a 4-1 thrashing in front of the home support at Vicarage Road and the current situation remains tough for a manger with Roy Hodgson's record of helping clubs stave off the drop. On paper at least, Watford have considerable resources at their disposal and a front-three of Emmanuel Dennis, Joshau King, and Ismaïla Sarr that can cause one headache after the next on their day, but tactically - and by extension creatively - the London outfit continue to struggle when it comes to finding a balance or a measure of consistency in their performance levels. They showed they are capable of upsetting the big boys already this season, but whether they can do the double over United tomorrow remains a tough ask.

The German tactician only has a handful of selection issues, with Scott McTominay still absent through illness while Edinson Cavani misses out due to injury. Mason Greenwood remains suspended. Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga could keep their place on either side of Ronaldo as the Red Devils return to a more familiar deployment.

Watford boss Roy Hodgson will have a big task ahead of him this weekend after the Hornets were brought back down to earth when they were thrashed 4-1 at Vicarage Road by Crystal Palace last time out after securing a credible 1-0 away win at Aston Villa.
Hodgson will once again be without Nicolas Nkoulou due to injury, and could also be bereft of the services of Peter Etebo (doubtful) while Danny Rose remains ostrasized. The former England manager will be able to welcome back the trio of Joshua King, Juraj Kucka, and João Pedro however, with the Hornets capable of fielding a solid XI given their options.
